First Satnav for iPhone now in Appstore

Ouch, that's pricey. So TomTom has gotta be around that, then factor in the hardware they recommend too... It's gonna be cheaper to run a standalone sat nav.

One wonders if the expensive software is down to Apple's licensing costs...

I'll wait for TomTom to see what they offer, with cradle etc.

Or unless someone integrates with speed cams then i'll get that.

LOL. Knew it wasn't going to cheap on the App stores for these doobries.

Just glad I've got satnav built into the motor now. Phew!

I think its already been stated in another thread that TomTom shipped on an SD card with no hardware for use on mobiles is about £90 so I hope nobody is expecting it to be cheap.

I figured it would be this much. But if you already have a satnav was there any likely hood that you would buy this anyway, would be such a waste.

Genuine question: What happens if you are called whilst using the sat-nav apps?

Every other app closes momentarily while you answer, then re-opens afterwards. Going to be a problem on the iPhone unless they are doing some voodoo to allow calls through an in-app voice API.

I expect TomTom to go for £80 with cradle. Oh and £7.95/month for map updates :o

I wont be, altho saying that, depends what price tomtom come out as. Because it would be nice to just have one thing on my dash.

Also totaly depends on how it deals with getting a text/call. Or playing mp3's and the satnav instructions threw the headunit. We shall see, lol

The TomTom cradle thing ain't exactly the "prettiest" thing to have stuck on your dash/window though. How much is a bespoke TomTom One these days? About £100 if you shop around?

Got any pics of the cradle? Still thinking if i should get it or not, i rarley use my satnav as it is, maybe 10 times in a year. So i really shouldn't, but i guess its always with me then, as i never take my satnav out with me everytime i go out driving inless i dont know where im going before i leave

very good point, ideally i suppose it would flick (within a short amount of time) back to tomtom and give you that green bar at the top like when you navigate away from the call screen normally...

£54.99 at an introductory price for one week, what a joke, if it was priced around £30 everyone would buy it and they would own the iphone market share for sat nav.

I am waiting for a new company to come along with a sat nav app that makes others look like fisher price in comparison and for half the price.

Have you seen the way reviews work in iTunes?

I've seen apps get 1 star because someone didn't like the comedian, despite saying that the app was 5/5

Likewise, I've seen people give something 1 star because it was priced £5.99 when others in the same category go for £3.49.

In essence.. people are so used to paying for 59p apps that anything over £15 will seem like a kick in the nuts. The first sat-nav app with a decent UI would have to be under £10 for it to take off and best TomTom (in the long run).. even then it had better be bug-free or it will plummet down the ranks.

an important marketing point -less money therefore more people will buy it.

As there's none out ATM they priced it like this. I think IMO they shouldve made it cheaper as it's not as well known/reputable as Tomtom or Garmin.

Lets hope they get cheaper as the API is now out for third-parties. :D

I think that the iPhone as getting more exciting and sometime I will eventually get a satnav for the phone but not 'i repeat' navicom at 50odd pounds' lol. Well not yet :D
