Out on the 360 in 4 days - can't wait! I've been a fan since Tales of Phantasia on the SNES, and this looks awesome. Been hankering for some decent jRPG action for a while.

Anyone else getting it?

I thought it was out already, I was thinking of the US version which was released in August last year, that is one hell of a delay =/

I can understand it taking so long to bring it from Japan to everywhere else because it has to be translated, but I seriously have no clue why it must take so long between the US and European release. I know it's more difficult to localize games in Europe with all the different languages, but other pubilishers don't seem to have much of a problem with it.

I've been really looking forward to it but as I haven't had chance to open Star Ocean yet I'm going to wait for the hopefully quick drop in price.

Ill be picking this up when either it drops in price or when i finish star ocean. Its got some pretty good reviews from the looks of things.

Like wise, I'll definietly be getting this, but only when Star ocean is finished.
How far through SO are you? I'm 35 hours in and still only on the first disc, so I think Vesperia will have to wait a while.

I'm quite new to the Tales of series, only having previously played Symphonia, but I liked that a lot and I'm looking forward to this one :)

just been watching a video about it on IGN and everywhere I look says release date isnt until august in europe. although the online off shore place says its in stock

they bring the release date forward?

Just been looking around and apparently Tales of Vesperia is the one to go for.... But its a cute little anime game... I really am looking for a long term RGP game that i can play on those long boring evenings i have a couple of times a week.... but is this game going to be too serious for me?

Will i feel lost in the game? Will it deliver?????

XBM said July 30th, and other places (inc the foresty-type place) say 26th so I'd think so.

agnes - if if Tales of Symphonia is anything to go by, the game is what you want to make of it - there's no 'random' battles for instance. On the world map, you just have to avoid the monsters and you'll never get in to fights. ToS was massive but it never felt like it was - it had this great balance. I'm sure ToV will be the same.

Maybe get Star Ocean in the meantime? In the main SO post, someone said he's played 30+ hours and he's still on disk one!

I'm liking it so far, only a few hours in.

Know how ya feel...been there (like a trillion others).

Sorry OP, thread hijacking a fair bit now :(

I have never played either of these games before (ones before these).

I just want a good, long lasting RPG, with lots of exploration, good story and a nice combat system.

EDIT: will be buying one of them on friday

If you fancy a relaxed very polished 'starter' jrpg on the 360 I'd actually recommend Blue Dragon. Wonderful game and can be bought dirt cheap now.

But its a cute little anime game...

I like my jrpg's, and would likely enjoy the gameplay in Vesperia, but the visual style turns me right off. It's for this reason I'm happy to pass on this game.

As an aside, if game developers continue to make games like this with the same art direction, the graphics will never improve. This is because they look now as good as they will ever look.

I wonder if there is a future in games that look like this? As graphics technology continues to push the limitations of our consoles, with the FF series being at the forefront of such technology, how is a game like Tales with it's increasingly retro look going to fare?

to me gfx are totally unimportant when compared to story line. Id happily play with spectrum 48k graphics if the story was good enough. But each to their own, if it doesnt do it for you then fair enough, I just feel its a shame that some people will miss out on possible gems of gaming simply because it doesnt need an nVidea 1000000000fx to run it :( . To me good graphics are just a bonus and will never be high on my list of requirements when looking to purchase a game.

good graphics really really don't make good rpg's imo and they don't need to be photorealistic. Look at Eternal Sonata that not photorealistic at all, it's a jrpg but the art style and visuals on it looks fantastic imo. The newer FF games may look all pretty but it doesn't make for an engrossing game.

Game developers will continue to make jrpgs in the anime/cell shaded style as its a staple style of japan and tbh the industry as a hole. Theres no getting around it im afraid. Many games with that sort of style have been fantastic sellers so i can't see them changing now.

Lost Odyssey and Last Remnant iirc were praised for their very nice and realistic visuals so you might want to check them out if you haven't as they might be more up your alley.

on a side not, what is it about the visual style of ToV that turns you off?

ToV looks light years ahead of more 'realistic' 3D jRPG efforts. I'd rather a bit of flair and style to the art rather than generica 3D. Plus you get the issue of always looking worse than a Final Fantasy.

Style > pushing technology

Its like dismissing animation for being done in 2D rather than 3D.
