Cinema annoyances...

Wow...can of worms opened, when I started this thread I thought i'd generally be told to stop whinging, glad it's not just me who gets annoyed.

Another annoyance would be chavs, they travel in such large groups that if you single out one, you get the rest annoying you, can't really win in that situation.

All the things in this thread are generally why I go see the thing I want to see a few days/weeks after it's been released. Empty, quiet and delightful viewing for the win.

I love nachos but I feel like I have been raped when the girlfriend who works at an odeon tells me hot dogs cost them about 30p!

there were a few chavs in my local cinema drinking beer. when they finally got thrown out they decided to smash their bottles over the floor :(

Never really had bad experiences with other people in the cinema, but the thing that really annoys me is the 20 minutes or so of tv adverts before the trailers . I remember a time when there were a couple of adverts for local businesses, then the trailers, and then the movie. Now it's a bombardment of adverts which means I've almost finished chomping noisily through my popcorn before the film starts.

The adverts kill me, the uncomfy seats and sometime they don't turn the volume up loud enough grrr

I'd sooner wait for the dvd/blu-ray to come out unless its a big blockbuster.

just gonna be echoing whats been said earlier...

People kicking the back or your seat, sit the **** still or gtfo

Noisy bunches of idiots again stfu or gtfo

The goddamn seats!
Who in their right might decided a seat at the front right about 4 foot away
from a goddamn huge ass screen was a valid seat to charge people for

That's happened a few times in the local now, so much so theyve started giving seat numbers, our local had always been sit wherever but not now.

The lack of premium seats, normal trick was if the screening was quiet then just nab a normal seat, if it's busy grab a premium seat. Which theyve now changed so only way to get a premium seat is to book online, which means you can't use any goddamn promo codes/vouchers.

The prices of food there, food drinks snacks w/e.
Post mix at a what percent markup? And I thought pubs could be bad at times.
Premade popcorn warmed a bit and covered in enough salt to kill a small elephant.
And nachos jesus wept I like me nachos but not at those goddman prices!
Oh and if Ikea can do a half decent hotdog at 60p or w/e they are this week where on earth is the justification in cinemas charging a fiver.

Tell me about it. Before the last Harry Potter movie I saw the same car advert three times. If there's a way to turn me off a product, try ramming it down my throat. Unless it's food-based in which case you may change my mind.

What if they showed an advert for edible cars?

This can all be avoided.

Get in the theatre at the exact time when the movie is "suppose" to start. That way you only wait like 5-10 minutes before the film starts.

Don't go see a movie on the opening Friday night when the cinema is jammed. Go on a weekday to the late showing or an over 18 showing which our local cinema does with some films.

I always manage to get a side row to myself with lots of room. Your all doing it wrong.

I think 75%+ of cinema annoyance could be eliminated by not letting people take food in. I'm constantly amazed by the number of people who stuff their faces at the cinema. Can't these fat slags go for two hours without munching on something? I eat a lot of food, and try to spread it out throughout the day rather than 'three square meals', but I can sit and watch a film without getting withdrawal symptoms!

Most of the noise in cinemas is generated by the rustling of packaging, plus the action of a bunch of fat masticators! Prohibit food and both of these problems would be eliminated. I think drinks should be allowed, especially during the warmer months, but I can see no justification for insisting on the right to munch.

Of course the cinemas will never prohibit food, as they'd lose out on their secondary sales, plus infuriate a pack of fat people such that ticket sales would go down too.

I go to the cinema pretty much every Wednesday at 6pm. Finish work at 5pm, go home in between to get changed. It is the one night of the week that I am not rigid in what I eat (eating between 5 & 7 meals a day just now), so I like to sit and eat a few sweets. If you are so OCD that a little paper rustling annoys you, maybe you should consider just waiting for the DVD to come out?

Some people are amazing at what they get so uptight about. If someone is kicking your seat, ask them to stop! I think half of the people in this thread are too scared to do anything, so they sit there stewing for 90 minutes rather than quickly turning round and asking them to stop.

It annoys everyone apart from the person actually eating. It's not about OCD, it's about irritating, unnecessary noise in a place where you're meant to be silent.

But look! I'm here to help you. Next time, why don't you unwrap all the sweets first and then decant them into a noiseless vessel like a polystyrene cup? Everyone will love you for it.

NB: I don't actually expect you to do this but it would be amazing if more people did.

Its not where you are "meant to be silent" - it is a large public place where people are allowed to eat and drink. There will be inherent noise. Deal with it.

A little bit of paper rustling REALLY doesn't matter. People talking or a mobile phone is a problem, sweet papers rustling isn't. If I make a little bit of noise (which it is impossible not to) then I couldn't care less if some guy 2 rows back is sitting there concentrating on me rather than the film. If he doesn't like it, he doesn't have to go to the cinema.

As long as food is allowed there will be a very minor amount of noise. If food stops being allowed, a huge number of people will stop going to the cinema, me included.

EDIT: I think it is quite indicative of the lack of social skills some people have that they'd rather sit there and suffer in silence rather than ask someone else to stop talking / stop kicking their chair / stop rustling at an excessive volume!

Who in this thread has said that they sit there stewing for 90 minutes before asking someone to stop kicking their seats? Who has said that they don't ask people to stop kicking their seats whatsoever? I think you're confused pal. Social skills are displayed by knowing when to ask them to stop, not by charging in the first time someone accidentally knocks your seat.

Who in the thread has said that they charge in the first time someone knocks their chair? I think you are confused pal. If someone is kicking my seat (i.e. more than a couple of times) I'll politely ask them to stop it.

From the previous responses such as "I leave it 10 minutes before I ask someone to stop kicking my chair" it is quite apparent a lot of people don't try and deal with the things that annoy them at the cinema. I've been at the cinema before when there were a group of teenage boys sitting shouting every so often, using their phones etc. The cinema was packed, and nobody but me said anything to them. The most anyone else did was turn round and glare at them. A quick "would you shut the **** up" and they were silent for the rest of the film.

EDIT: To make my point a little clearer: A lot of the things that annoy people are things which could easily be prevented simply by asking the people involved not to do it; i.e. please stop talking or kicking my seat. The fact that people get so annoyed suggests they don't do anything to stop it.

Most of mine have been pointed out already:

1) Kicking back of seats
2) Adverts (Proper adverts, don't mind trailers)
3) Phones
4) Talking
5) Cinema Staff (Transformers 2 10:10 showing, 2mins before trailers an usher got everyones attention to tell us that there was nothing after the credits started rolling and for us to please leave straight away). At this point someone behind me shouted some abuse and everyone continued to disregard him. Funnily enough, there are actually a few scenes as the end credits start. Lying son of a bitch).

Sweets and popcorn tend not to bother me as the Vue where I am is loud enough to grab most of your attention without having to worry about loud munchers.

The way my friends tend to avoid it, is to nearly always goto the post 23:00 shows, if not the latest 00:00 showings. No kids, over 18 and generally an audience who wants to be there rather than for any other reason.

Still, doesn't stop complete morons. I was there one time and there were a group of lads who were mixed asian and black (from the local Uni I guess). They were about 4 rows infront of us which is a fair gradient down towards the screen. One of them had his phone out every 5 minutes texting or doing something , was really getting annoying. Yet he managed to trump his performance by having the phone ring loudly with some crappy RnB ringtone - only to answer it and have a full blown out loud/shouting conversation on it for about 30 seconds.

I think he just about managed to **** everyone off in the cinema, including his mates as one of them smacked the cap off the back of his head for being a disrespectful little ****e. I'm sure others there would have loved to have done a lot worse!!

To the above^ I think Robbie has it right. I've had people kicking me in the back of the chair a FAIR bit before a film (started during the trailers). It went on constantly until the start of the film and it just stopped. I turned around once as it happened and it was a girl and her boyfriend and she just appeared to be getting comfortable. There was no malace in it. I'm glad I gave her the chance to sort herself out than turning around and saying "stop kicking my chair" prematurely. However, if it was a constant disrespectful kicking or talking I would probably turn around and say something - unless it was a large group of kids, then I'd go get one of the punk ushers to sort it out :D
