Need to get rid of my old Vectra, it works 'fine', but the MOT is up for renewal and it would need at least two new front tyres to pass. The tax disc is up for renewal on the 1st of July

Quite frankly, going by prices on pistonheads, I'd be lucky to get 200 quid for it, given the rust to the bodywork

So it's not worth the bother of getting new tyres, MOT and 6 months tax, just to sell it for around the same price

I have nowhere to keep it off the road

Should I try and sell it to a few local garages? or can I just call the council to come and collect it?

Thanks in advance..

Dont you have cars around your town advertising "Cash paid for any car?"

Around here they will give you upto £200. Or if you just want rid take away for free (Beats when you used to have to pay for such a service.

not going to ebay it as I need to get rid of it before the 1st, or I'll get a fine for having no Tax on it

don't care about getting money back for it, just want it 'gone'

You want to scrap a car because it needs two new tyres?

SORN it then.

If you just "want it gone" do what a mate did with his old mini - park it in a town center car park with the windows down and the keys in the ignition. Two hours later, it was gone and reported it stolen to the police. Job done and never saw it again.

I don't know anyone who wants the car, even for free..
it has rust on all panels

getting the tyres/mot/tax would just equal the value of the car

and in my current flat, I have nowhere to kept it as a SORN

For my dads old motor we just phoned a local place that came and took it away from free. Two weeks before he was going to drive it to the scrappers but the clutch cable snapped!

Whats the specs and how much rust does it have? I have that friend who is after an old vectra. They'd pick it up if its not too bad :)

Edit:  I just looked up where st davids is...yeah ebay it mate :)

You can try your council, some have a scheme set up to take away old cars rather than them ending up abandoned and burnt out, but that's more common in cities.

If you scrap it you're better off driving it to somewhere yourself and getting a lift back if you can, then you probably will get some money for it (£50 ish, but don't quote me on that) but usually if people have to come and get it then they will do it for free at best.

Whatever you do make sure you fill in the yellow section 9 (Sale/transfer to the motor trade/insurer/dismantler) on your V5 so the car is no longer in your name, otherwise you could find you end up with the DVLA asking you for tax and an £80 fine if it is not registered as scrapped properly.

If it is going to be crushed or dismantled rather than sold on you should also be able to get a copy of the Certificate of Destruction. This is the form used by properly licensed scrap and breakers yards to inform the DVLA a vehicle no longer exsists.

PK!

1.8LS (petrol)
130000 miles
Always did 40mpg for me, used as a motorway car for work & town driving

Needs new front tyres, 'safe' to drive, have about 1mm tread
New brakes & pads fitted all round last year
Clutch replaced about 3 years ago (iirc)

Been in the family for about 7 or 8 years, so hasn't had a thrashing

Has patches of rust on 3 or 4 doors, and the rear wiper rusted off (patched up with silver tape :o )

Only problem I've had was the idle fuel valve, but this was recently cleaned (that is the fix for it)

Sorry to **** you about mate, just got a reply from her. Guess what the question was..

What colour is it? :p

I think its green, from memory.. But that does not mean I am right :p

*edit again* Seems i was totally wrong :D
