Well to be brief, my girlfriend has just got a job for a few months over summer to pay for our holiday and the person in charge (grand daughter of the founder) is apparently a huge, annoying lady. I'm told that she has a stick so far up herself that it's frustrating to even be near her and she carries a small dog around the office acting like the queen or something.

Anyway, she was over heard shouting (she always shouts apparently) and saying that she could fire everybody as they're all worthless and she doesn't care about anybody as she's the only important one. There have been other outbursts like this too and my girlfriend has only been there a week.

Today she made everybody stand up and work for half an hour as apparently she can do that because she's in charge.

Is this fair? Is there anything my girlfriend can do besides grin and get on with it as she's making life very difficult for everybody and even I'm getting frustrated. Unfortunately she doesn't seem to be doing anything really bad at the moment, but she's obviously creating a very unhealthy working place.

Fair?

I'd have ignored her. Completely.

Your girlfriend accepted it and stood up for 30 mins to work?

Arguably you could create a case for harassment by virtue of a hostile work environment, but if it's only for a few months are you really willing to go through the process of an employment tribunal etc?

In which case, either tolerate or leave are your options pretty much :p

Begrudgingly, she really needs the money and there probably wouldn't be enough time to find a new job, so she is pretty much out of options.

lol, i didn't realise people that that existed outside of cartoons.

I keep telling her that it doesn't seem real to me, she said it's a bizarre place ..

Man... nothing worse than a heffer who things shes the best thing to ever walk the planet.

Someone needs to give her a smack and tell her to shut up infront of everyone to knock her back down to earth.

For the amount of time we're talking I reckon she's probably best keeping quiet and taking the cash.

There's a very good chance of taking the ***** down a peg or two at the end of her tenure ;)

If nobody actually listened to her and instead remained seated then her power will evaporate in a second. If she sacks you all as you say she would, she will have 30 unfair dismissal tribunals to deal with.

The situation sucks because if she does walk (I've told her that I'd understand) or get fired for insubordinance (not standing up to work) it means I've got to pay more!

Of the suggestions, she wouldn't be willing to take it to a tribunal so I guess that means she can either put up with it or leave. Ahh I just wish there was something that could be done to permanently put this lady in her place :(
