Ok so I have the opportunity to buy one finally :) I have a few question, have done some forum searches and research, but need some specific help and know there are a few owners on here.

1) Is buying a high mileage 80k 4 year old car a ticking time bomb?
2) What exactly is TLC and can it be bought if the car I buy doesn't have it.
3) Average MPG in the real world, so basically looking for long term averages of owners and what sort of usage.
4) How reliable are they, I have heard some bad stories, but also some good.
5) I cannot afford a face lift before anyone asks.

Thanks in advance :)

80k isn't high mileage, when will people learn this. :/

Granted it's 20k a year, which does seem a fair bit, but is reasonable mileage these days and is what a lot of people do. I don't know about them though so can't help on the car front.

1) Not really, they aren't inherently unreliable, we had an early one that reached well over 80k without issue.
2) Not 100% sure on that sorry
3) Averaged around 28MPG on both we had (a 52 and a 55 plate) throughout their lives.
4) See 1)
5) 4 year old would be a facelift. What I suspect you mean is that you can't afford the new shape one.

Im not adverse to high mileage, we bought our current cars at 60,74 etc

But they have all been 'big' engined cars, bit more concerning how a 1.6 managed to cover so much and how well they hold up.

Thank you, thats what I meant :) Cannot afford the new shape one.

Any known problems with the supercharger?

Basically, I usually would have more time to read and research into it, but have come across a 7k 55plate and need to know as much as quickly as possible :)

£7k sounds a lot tbh. We were looking to sell our fully loaded (bar the ugly-ass satnav) 55 plate one for around £8k, and its only got 26,000 on it.

Not selling it now as my brother is going to use it.

Thanks, the Sat Nav does look rather odd in the centre console :S Is it any good, or just like all built in systems, not quite up to par with the likes of TomTom?

You can't buy TLC :/

Well you probably could but it'd have nothing to do with your car and you'd probably catch a nasty infection :(

Never used it. My dad decided it looked that out of place (square screen, round hole) that we never even bothered trying out a demo car with nav.

I actually like my BMW nav compared to tomtom though, so if it is similar, it might be ok.

Cooper S, uck. So god damn common every1 seems to have one

Constructive

Cheers for the helps, been looking around some more and there a few cars with less mileage, this one just looked good as its a 2006 car, will have a look and see what condition it is in :)

it's the same one
we had it in our E39. not the speediest of navs, but i thought it worked rather well :)

Depends on the revision of computer and software. With my MK4 computer and 2009 software its pretty quick in fairness.

If the car has 80k on the clock it will have gone well over the milage for the mini TLC to be of any use, even if the previous owner had paid for the XTLC then iirc from whe i bought mine even that would have expired at 80k.

The TLC package covers the servicing up to 40k or 5 years which ever happens first, then i think the XTLC covers a further 3 years or 40k iirc.

Not really..

2) What exactly is TLC and can it be bought if the car I buy doesn't have it.

TLC and TLC XL are the service packages.. you can buy it when you need it, my car has TLC cover atm, but my next major service isn't for another 15k.. it's not a bad deal for £300 imo for what you get.

TLC is 5 years or 50,000 miles, in that you get 3 services and with TLC XL you get 3 years or 30k with 3 services included. (That's labour also)

3) Average MPG in the real world, so basically looking for long term averages of owners and what sort of usage.

My car is averaging about 27-30mpg, getting on average 300 miles per tank of 97, that's doing a regular 40 mile run to work and back.

4) How reliable are they, I have heard some bad stories, but also some good.

There are some horror stories out there.. I have had a few myself but i've had my Cooper S now for 7 months and i've only had to have consumables and the engine mount done (The latter being covered by the 1 year free dealer warrenty)

In my experience now as well, the cars are hillarious to drive. The Supercharger whine is brilliant.. Just make sure you have some decent rubber on them.

Chilli pack on the Cooper S is a must also, includes 17s, Xenons etc..
