Has anyone actually successfully got a temping job with any agency? I've applied to a handful, have heard nothing yet.

Any suggestions for some good agencies for the London area?
I'm an undergraduate looking for some summer work...

:)

The girlfriend said there is nothing around and she may end up working in a factory for £200 a week. Can't complain but boring as ****.

Try Reed.

I've joined the website, applied for a few jobs but is there much difference in actually going to a branch rather than applying online to the agency?

Try OfficeAngels if you're near one. They are good for general admin work and are popular with government departments that have lots of admin work.

Well, yeah. They can put a face to a name and know you are motivated enough to turn up and sell yourself to the agency who can in turn sell you to whoever.

I haven't experienced agencies but i have been told by my Mum that unless you pester them, they won't do anything. You need to make sure they get you a job and show you can get them money etc.

Same applies to actually applying to work somewhere - i always go into the shop, ask for the manager and actually chat face to face to my 'future' employer. Works much better than doing the half-arsed approach.

The notoriously awful Office Angels in the northeast must be the exception to this.

I got my current job through a small 4 person operation that went out of their way to help after picking up my CV from Monster. From my experience it is these agencies who are better - they care about the staff, return calls, etc.
