I enjoyed this film when I saw it. Obviously, as is the trend, I was immediately inundated with requests to read the book. So I did. Ruined the film for me.
It wasn't too bad in the film - normally, the fine details being brushed out saps the substance out of the story. But I really could have got by without knowing what a weak & vacillating character what's-her-name was. I mean Jesus, is there a soul in fiction more pathetic? And Edward - must it be said every couple of paragraphs how beautiful he is? The whole thing seems like a desperate recollection of jilted teenage love, and reeks of the author's self-pity.
If you haven't ever read the book, don't do it. Unless you enjoyed The Da Vinci Code. Then go ahead.
