Fomer computer hackers are being recruited for a British cyberspace army, as the UK seeks to defend itself from the growing risk of web terrorism and espionage.

It doesnt supply a link where you can sign up, would they except winnuke95.exe as previous experience? :D

Seriously though, good to see the government doing this, positive step forward in making our high security websites and servers even more secure plus adding a deterrent.

Reminds me of the big cyber war between PCA and ICW in india and pakistan for years they would deface and take down each others websites until they came to a 'cease fire'.

About time we had something to counter the Chinese/Russian cyber threat, the problem is though what is there to stop this Orwellian style government we have from using these people against the average British person?

Surely this is just a GCHQ recruitment drive :) Nothing new, they've been hiring people with these skills for donkeys years, just now they have a spin off 'national cyber security centre' for them.

They have a rolling recruitment for specialists usually.

Does this stuff actually really happen ? Surely if there so open about it wouldn't they ' be all up in their grill ' over the issue. Also how do they go about there fiendish attacks ? P.S. dam commies! :P

He told BBC Radio 4's PM programme the UK faced coordinated cyber attacks "on a regular basis" from other countries including Russia and China.

And he confirmed that the British government had approached the Russian and Chinese governments to ask them to stop the attacks.

"We have had a dialogue with them in the past and I wouldn't want to go into what goes on in terms of debate at the moment," he told the BBC.

Yeah but I like to think you can trust them. Home hackers who spend their days breaching sites, stealing bank account details and using botnets aren't surely don't carry the same level of trust?

I doubt they're hiring black hats. Any "hacker" they hire will likely be subject to a very thorough background check.

It does say 'former'. I hear there are lots of ex-hackers working for anti-virus companies as well, so it's not unheard of hackers turning good.
