*Shameless Boasting Thread* :D

Can't say I blame you, hell I'd have done the same if I had that sort of money to spend on a monitor! :)

Man I sincerely hope you haven't yet bought it. You should've gone for the NEC mate and here's why:

Reliability (first and foremost): I have a Samsung LE32BDX tv and after 11 months, the thing started to play with itself (forgive the pun). It would randomly reset itself and change channel, and this is a known problem that Samsung do not want to acknowledge. I know this because the engineers that came to check my TV said that most of their problems came from Samsung TV's, and had the same issue.
More recently, the damn thing started to have the same problem again, but Samsung said I'd have to pay 115 pounds to have it checked at an authorised dealer as it was out of warranty. Why should the customer pay for lazy manufacturers' faults? Since then though, I bought a Pioneer TV for A LOT more and I have a 5 year warranty with it. Chances are though I'll never need to use it.
Also, an EXTREMELY reliable high street retailer of high quality TV's and audio equipment verified this, and they even call Samsung 'Samdung'. Says a lot.
My friend paid 350 quid for a 22" Samsung monitor (as it has 3 HDMI ports) and it's got the same problem as my TV, so their problems clearly aren't restricted to TV's, but monitor's as well.

As a brand, Samsung are awful! My TV; my girlfriend's Samsung phone had to be sent away for repair after 3 months; my friend went through two of their 'Soul' phones in 6 months as they stopped responding; my other friend's dodgy monitor; their 'faster' Spinpoint hard drives have MTBF times of around 600,000 hours while WD offer 5 year warranties and have MTBF times of around 1.2 million hours. To me, I'd rather spend the extra dosh and have something working for years to come.

Don't get me wrong, there probably are a lot of people on here with Samsung products who work fine, for now, but 1000 pounds? Mate get a refund and get yourself a Dell or an NEC even if it costs more.

Oh and one last thing, ignore all reviews when it comes to Samsung. I find that reviews in general focus on performance, screen clarity, high contrast ratios, features etc, but give little time to the reputation of the manufacturer, and they can't really measure the reliability of products anyway.

But in contrast i have two 40" 1080P samsung LCD's had them since release 0 problems, my sister has a Samsung laptop over a year 0 problems, we have a few 24" Samsung 240 Monitors 0 problems to report, also had 0 problems with my previous samsung phones, thats a lot of current samsung goods for one user without any issues.

Just out of curiosity, your 40" screens, how long have you had them? Actually, could you possibly tell me how long you've had all your Samsung products?

One thing I forgot to mention is that I personally have had to send my Samsung phone in for repair about a year ago, so that's another item to list.

I'm just trying to look out for people. If people don't believe me, google the problems yourselves or pop into premium TV and audio retailers. None stock Samsung and there's a reason for it. In fact, when a grand for a monitor is in question, I highly suggest googling it and you'll see the amount of problems users are having.

On a side note, I just set up my Samsung LCD with my 360 and it went into standby as soon as I touched the top of it.

Lovely 30" screen.

I would get one, but for the fact that I wouldnt be able to afford the graphics card changes required for 2560x1600. (Student to be).

Thus I am on 3840x1200 (2x24"), of which only one is used for games (1920x1200).

Best of luck.

I can't pass comment too much on samsung stuff except for my spinpoint which has failed in just over a year.

However, I can say that NEC support is superb and if things do happen to go wrong (unlikely), one phone call and a replacement screen is delivered next day and then the day after they come and collect your old screen.

That to me is worth extra money when buying the product in the first place.

i was going to get the nec but it had 55ms input lag no thankyou!

Of all things to fail, a hard drive.

Seriously, NEC support is that good?

Well you seem a bit shocked by your exclamation mark that I said you made a mistake in buying the Samsung over the NEC, so why did you nearly buy the NEC if it has such bad 55ms input lag then?

Can I just ask, how long have you had your Samsung TV's? Are they old CRT screens or proper LCD/plasma?

Ok then, why have I had so many problems with Samsung across phones and a TV; a high street retailer (their name starts with the word 7 if you get my drift) have said that they are utterly useless; the engineers that came round my house said most of their call outs were to do with Samsung TV's; my friend's monitor has the same problem I have with my TV; my other friend went through two of their phones in 6 months; oh and Greebo's HDD has failed?
I haven't made any of this up. I'm not on an anti Samsung mission here.

I'm not debating on whether you know what you're talking about or even if you're in the tech field, especially after looking at your website (nice photos by the way), but you really should know about how useless Samsung are across their entire range of products. They're called 'Samdung' by professional technicians who install Pioneer, B&W, Cambridge Audiowork, Bose speakers and TV's for a reason.

Seriously man I'm just trying to look out for you. You seem really annoyed that I pointed out all those problems, but fine whatever if you can spend a grand just like that on a 30" monitor without considering this then so be it.

Retailers would stop selling them if the return rates got too high. I think you have just been unlucky.

No retailers will not as 1) they're making a killing from Samsung products as Samsung TV's are tuned to look better than other brands of TV's (source: name beginning with the word 7); 2) Samsung products fail or start to screw up usually after a year, which means that retailers have no legal obligation to help the consumer (unless the consumer has bought an extra warranty of course) and neither do Samsung.

How can I, my girlfriend, two of my friend's all be unlucky? Seriously, statistically, what are the chances of that?

Actually, a technician from a chain in bright red (god I hate not being able to just say the shop's name!) said that he's seen hundreds of Samsung TV's being returned as faulty.

OK fair enough.

Please do let us know if they start to mess up. Including randomly switching off/on and changing channels.
Kudo? Do you mean Pioneer Kuro or something mate?

Oh don't get me wrong, they're support whilst your products are still well within their warranties is very good. My gripe is they know that it's their manufacturing fault, but insist you, the consumer have to pay 115 quid to have your TV looked at when it's out of warranty. To me, when they know they have a problem but expect you to pay for their mistake, it's wrong. End of.

I maintain you've made a mistake in ordering that, but I sincerely hope it works well for you for many years to come.

You take some lovely photos :) as they say in film, you frame very well ;)

lol thankyou lets hope my i get my Mac Pro soon as i don't think the samsung has a scaler to allow my macbook to use aperture on it :( it only supports 1920x1200

Yeah, the reason is because their price/performance ratio is far above what premium retailers sell. Why the hell would they sit a Samsung in their shop for under £1000 which is capable of nearly the same quality of a TV they are trying to sell for £4000? On top of that it makes no sense in terms of brand image either because if they are trying to represent themselves as a 'premium' retailer then selling the market leading TV brand is completely counter productive.
