Another one that is a bit of a rant,

Anyways, recently been told i will be getting moved at work, used to be on a helpdesk that gave support to call centres using the Setanta CRM, because they are no longer neither is the helpdesk.

Either way setanta was going i was told i would be working with a guy creating and maintaining knowlege bases for other projects in the company. thought gread HTML, CSS and a bit of Java, just what i want to get into.

Im now told its all on hold untill the forseeable future because we now have the Setanta Ireland and Racing UK customer services back. now im back to sitting talking to customers for 8 hours a day.

Three times the people higher up the ranks have told me that i will be getting either promoted or put into something better such as this something i will enjoy.

So 3 times this week i have been told i m being put to work with this other guy and then at the back told no its on hold and finaly been told im going to work on Setanta ireland.

Im at the stage where im ready to say just leave it i will just stick being a number and do this i dont want to be messed aroun any more, after all the pay is the same but its monday - friday 9:00 - 5:30.

So what do you guys think? Be patient and bide my time or just say stick it?

Anyone else in this situation or been there

The only language they'll understand is that of the letter of notice. Either they poo a little and find you something double time, or they let you leave. Either way it's win / win for yourself.

Recently I wanted to negotiate a payrise (I wanted to stay) and even before I asked the question, I obtained another job offer and slapped it down in front of them saying I had to think of my financial future. 20 minutes later I had a 30% payrise.

I've been in IT for 2 years now and currently reside on a helpdesk. At the moment, i don't mind it too much, but i want to start to develop more skills before i get really bored of it. Currently working torwards my MCSA/E and will then go from there.

In our company if you put the effort in, they look after you. Unfortunately you have to make the first move.

I can see how people get stuck working on helpdesks though but i've already decided that isnt for me.

Your company is going to be losing 10% of its staff soon if BBC reports are accurate, you should feel lucky you're not among that 10%.

If I were you I would bide my time and wait as LordSplodge rightly points out the job market is not brilliant. As Vixen points out if you are not one of the numbers for the axe I would stay put and watch the ride.

Yep I've been working on a helpdesk for about 4 months...and it sucks tbh :p but its better then nothing and being my first job after finishing uni last year (went on a long holiday) i need the experience.

Gonna stay for another 8 months to make it 1 year then hopefully quit to find something a bit different and more interesting, but the way things are with jobs at the moment, better to stick to what I got for now.

Yup, thats the company you are reading of. all Salaried staff have been asked to take a 10% pay cut and there are 95 redundancies, However what is getting me is, they say thsguy cant work on his own as his current work partner is going back to what he did before due to being carp lol, and they say he cant do it himself. but on the other token Setanta Ireland and Racing UK is not going to be all that busy, so why not move me.

In there you take logic and leave it at the door.

They trained a giirl up to do what i used to do and had here doing it when we got busy, then moved someone else over permanently and had to be retrained when she was doing hunky dory. Doesnt make any sence at all.

Jobs in fife are like Rocking horse poop, my last job was a 150mile round trip thats how carp they are here.

Thats what i love, everyone is either banging on about If you are not happy get another job. "I forgot the job shop had reopened" or be happy u have a job what even tho you realy arent happy in your job

you should work where I do, i've had 9 managers in 10 months, which includes 2 months sick leave. I've had contract changes outstanding for 10 months, and every single manager has promised to sort it.

Still, I have a job... so i'm sticking with it.

My last work was like that but its because every manager was on the thieve

I'm surprised anyone even mentioned promotions from helpdesk. The truth of the matter is - you can find cheap html people by dozens, but very hard and time consuming to find locally and train native speakers willing to work and be good at long term help desk job. I am all for rewarding employees, but if I was in position of your boss, as harsh as it might sound, if your team were good at your helpdesk jobs I would do everything in my power to keep helpdesk people stalled on career ladder for as long as humanly possible. I would dangle carrots. I would print t-shirts. I would organize employee of the month tesco voucher competitions. I would make up titles and fake positions like "assistant to the regional team leader". As long as it keeps you where you are. HTML can go to some Russian student for two handfulls of peanuts and office rented accommodation. Helpdesk tho. Stays where they are.

lol

I've decided to move on now, was thinking about it for a while, but now having been spoken to like a naughty 12 year old, it's time to find something where there is a little more respect.

Seeing as none of the aboe ever happens. Christ the most we have had in here is a game of bingo in the last 6 months

The problem is the Helpdesk has just gone belly up. due to setanta going belly up. Its not the company helpdesk i work for but one that supported Setanta outsource call centres. using our companys CRM,

Im now going to be going back to sitting listening to people calling up bending my ear. so the prospect of doing omethin i enjoy and want to do was looking good.

Fair enough have a job in a call centre what else do you expect but untill jobs else where pick up im stuck
