is 1920x1200 too much on a 15" laptop?

I'm considering changing from a pc to a lap top, for various reasons. However, as i'm used to working with a 19x12 res, i would like as high a res screen as possible BUT i don't really want anything too big so i'd settled on a 15 / 15.4 inch screen. But would that res make everything too tiny? Anyone have any experiece with this?

Thanks. By the way, if anyone has any recommendations for something in the £750 area....

My mate has a 17" laptop with the same resolution you are interested in, and it's very small. But it doesn't look like it would be hard to live with.
But on a 15/15.4" inch, it would be pretty hard to read anything when you aren't directly infront on it. My current resolution is 1680x1050 on a 15.4", which to me, is perfect.

Yeh I'd say 1680x1050 is a better res for 15" - and then possibly 1920x1200 on a 17"
I've got a mate who keeps looking at buying a 17" which is only 1400x900 :s

I had 1920x1200 on a 15.4" laptop and it was just too small. I now have 1680x1050 and I think that it's perfect- lots of space, but at the same time still legible!

I've got a 1680x1050 panel on my ThinkPad and am glad I went for that instead of something with a 1920x1200/1080 panel - it's almost too high-res as it is.

15.4 Dell Precision with 1920x1200 is my work laptop. The primary reason is CAD, its easier with high resolution to see what is straight / intersected. Day to day in Office etc, its a pain until you get used to it. Now I don't want anything lower res.

The other problem I've seen is that they don't tend to be as bright as lower res screens (think about all the gubbins that needs to go into each pixel).

Nothing wrong with that. My old laptop is a 17" with 1440*900, and it's a higher DPI than my current 24" 1920*1200. Yeah, it's a laptop so you're closer to the screen, but it's not "bad", by any means.

I think 1920*1200 on a 15" is too small though IMO, at least for icons or text (both of which can be increased in size though, so that's a non-issue). If you need the extra real estate for PS or CAD, then I don't see why not.

You can always increase the size of small text on a high res screen. You can't get more screen space on a low res screen.

Had a Dell D820 which was 1920*1200... was far too small and uncomfortable to use for any length of time. Best for me on a 15.4 was 1440x900.

Been looking at a Studio 15 myself. Options are either 1366x768 or 1920x1080 in LED screens. Have 1920 at home on my 24" but was thinking that res would be too small on the 15" screen. Would prefer a 1680 option.

If you want WSXGA+ (1680x1050) the only options I've found are HP or Lenovo ThinkPads (SL500, R500, T500 and W500 ranges). I've got the panel on my R500 and love it, viewing angles not bad for a TN (and bear in mind my primary 24" display is an H-IPS HP2475w).

I guess it isn't so bad now you have put it like that. Still, I'd want higher :D
If I could have had more than 1280x800 on my 13" I would have gone for it :p
