Having grown thoroughly tired of the poor dithering on my 226bw I was wondering if anyone knows of a cheapish 24" monitor (or bigger) thats a true 8-bit panel?

Thanks!

I am interested by this also, how do you know, apart from price, what type of panel you are getting? product descriptions never mention this in my experience.

I had a 226bw too, is dithering when you have certain colours in bands or is that colour banding lol?

Well the first indication that it's not a TN monitor is price. PVA/MVA/IPS and their variants always cost more - the cheapest 24" non-TN monitors are around £400. The sure-fire way to find out is to read high profile reviews from places that know what they're talking about or to look up the monitors in a panel database such as this one at tftcentral.co.uk.

Yeah dithering is where the monitor tries to recreate 16 million colors with just over 260 thousand - so it often results in poor gradients and such. I just miss the fidelity of CRTs. I really dont mind the underlying technology, just want to make sure it has much better color representation.

thats not strictly true. you just need to look around. i got my OcUK-Value 24" for £200 including VAT and it's an MVA-panel from AU-Optronics.

my other 24" monitor is a NEC Multisync LCD2470WNX (samsung S-PVA) which i picked up 2nd hand for just £125 inc vat :D
