Hi,

Anyone got any suggestions for me? I currently drive a 2004 Clio 182, i fancy something a little more grown up but still a fun car to drive with plenty of poke.

I was considering a mk1 TT 225.

As the title says id like a car for around £7.5k, 0-60 Sub 7 sec, and 2002 or newer.

Ive also considered a BMW 330 coupe. Are there any other cars im missing that are little gems? I think a lot of people will suggest ST220's but im not really a fan if im honest.

Thanks,

Russ

Civic Type R?

Good call, although theyre no more grown up than a 182 really. Theyre still a highly strung FWD N/A 4pot.

I think id quickly get bored as its very similar to the Clio in many ways.
Maybe an S2000?

The Mk1 TT's look attractive now though for the price I must admit.

Can S2000's be had for that sort of cash? didnt know that. The TT appeals due to ease of tuning tbh, with very little money 300bhp can be had

Isn't the S2000 engine the exact same as a Civic, basically just a sports car version of the Type R with RWD(?)?

I was saying 330 in my head before i even opened this thread. The 530i is almost the same to drive too, and very very cheap to buy.

But both are worlds apart compared with a Clio in running costs.

In what way is the S2000 engine different?

No point considering the Civic Type-R as they are very similar cars with very similar performance.

As much as I hate to say it something like a BMW 330i would be the grown up option.

I'd personally say the hell with that and buy a Scoobie STi :D which is what im playing to do when I replace my 182.

While they may be different than a Clio in terms of costs, they are hardly bad. Ive had what, 4 3litre BMW's pass through my hands now, and know countless people with them so am very used to all aspects of what fails or needs doing on them. Not one of us ever had to spend much on them really.

The 3.0 engines are reliable and economical, the cars themselves do not ask for much. servicing is cheap as you like, specialist dealers are everywhere. They are an ideal purchase for this budget.

So it doesn't use the same engine? Hence a similiar driving experience in terms of power delivery?

Power delivery is the same yes, vtec.

The F20C in the S2000 though produces 40bhp more and is Honda's only longitudinal 4 cylinder engine designed for RWD. It also revs higher than the K20A2 used in the ep3. The F20C produces the highest specific power for any naturally aspirated piston engine in a car worth less than US$100,000, at 120 bhp (89 kW) per litre.

Aside from the S2000 being RWD as opposed to FWD it's obviously also a convertible which will certainly be a different driving experience.

Mazda RX8 - 231 ps. Looks good, spacious, handles brilliantly, and fast of course. Although you have to be in the right gear all the time, or you can get beat by a peugeot.
