Blue and Green are the same colour?

sleight of hand is awesome, half the time, your brain just blue screens when you see a decent magician :)
 
the effects called simultaneous contrast if anyone interested. Its to do with how the photoreceptors in the iris are layed out. To put it simply you have 3 types "cone" receptors which react to different wave lengths of light (colour), each cone is cross connected to its close neighbours. When a receptor is recieving its correct wave length of light it becomes saturated and inhibits its neighbour (lateral inhibition) making the brain incorrectly diagnose colour. Notice how the "green" spiral is bordered by orange and that the "blue" spiral is bordered by purle/pink?

Took a module at uni on visualization, very interesting stuff :)
 
This is why the human eye isn't all that. What I wonder is if the eye can be so easily tricked, well, not tricked but perhaps exploited, can other senses be equally exploited?
