£7.5k budget, 0-60 sub 7 sec, 2002 or newer car....

Can you not find Astra VXR's for this kind of money now? Maybe a Focus RS with higher miles?

I'd go Turbocharged, LCR, vRS, Impreza, etc

S2000 for that money will be a dog

Leon Cupra R if you want a fast hatch, otherwise an x30i for comfortable cruising.

you could always get an ST220 as it will be newer, but it won't be as good as the BMW..

a Mini Cooper S works could be fun..

Can you get a works mini for £7k? Thought they still fetched stupid money?

Also JDM S2000 producing 247bhp? Is that correct? I thought they were around the 220bhp mark with the standard UK model producing 201bhp? 0-60 isn't overly great in the S, about 6.4secs? Most HH's will keep up with that!

This is the exact same budget i've got for my next car in a couple of months.

I'm pretty certain i'm going with the RX8.

It's quick, grown up, looks great, 4 decent seats, interior is nice etc. The only downside is the petrol really.

Downsides:

sub 20 mpg
uses a lite of oil every 1k miles
Risk of flooding (and calling breakdown) if you do a short journey (e.g. <5 mins). I'd have to take it for a spin every time I moved it to let my gf off the drive.
Poorly built interior that has a tendancy to squeak/break
Nowhere near the quoted power figures and day-to-day a slow car to drive in comparison to similar cars for the money.

I really wanted one, but couldn't live with its flaws.

For the OPs budget I would be looking at the TT.
