**Wimbledon 2009, June 22nd -July 5th

jrodga - A better bet would be any 3 or 4 of those to win in straight sets. Murray was 2/5 to win 3-0 which was good imo.

Yeah that was quite good to be honest :) See I was looking into that but I woul;d have been tempted to go with Roddick for example who ended up losing a set as he kind of messed about and practiced other shots.....so wouldn't have worked out well :p

My recovery bet worked off yesterday and today I'm waiting on:

Novak Djokovic @ 2/9
Roger Federer @ 1/33
Robin Soderling @ 1/6
Fernando Verdasco @ 1/12
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga @ 4/9
Serena Williams @ 1/25

This would round off a reseaonably successful couple of days. Had Murray etc involved in this bet too, 6 right so far :p

Though yesterday I only got Del Potro wrong....cant be too beat up about it though as Hewitt was terrific.

Murray's match against Troicki is just about to start on BBC1.

Looking forward to it, should be a good match.

C'mon Murray :)

Edit: looks like we might see the new roof at some point, they're saying it's already spitting...

He seems to be playing very well indeed, but I am still struggling to truly judge him at the moment. I need to reserve my opinion on his chances until he plays someone who has the capability to win Wimbledon, I think only then can I really judge his chances this year.

No offense to the guys he has played so far, but in footballing terms, he has so far played the Fulhams, West Hams and Man Citys (no offense either to followers of those teams). I need to wait and see what happens when he plays the Liverpools, Chelseas and Arsenals before I can really ascertain if he will go all the way this year.

True, but 75% of tennis tournaments involve playing the "lower orders" of players most of the time. The way Wimbledon is panning out this year, Murray won't face that kind of player until the semis against possibly Roddick or Hewitt. Until then he's got the incrementing challenges of Wawrinka then Gonzales/Ferrero/Simon (which will be his first real test imo).

You can only beat what's put in front of you, and, in the last two rounds at least, Murray has been devastating.

It was hard to tell whether that was down to Murray playing really well or the other bloke just being rubbish.
Either way Murray looks confident and pretty good:)

have all of his matches been on centre court and been late in the day?

Yes they have been but they did the same for Henman though Morba plus they know the TV audience will be bigger later on in the day.

Just home from work so unfortunately I missed the match tonight :( Will be similar next weekend when I miss the final which I'm gutted about, especially if Murray is in it! :(

Anyways seems as if he is continuing to play well but as has been said, he has been playing within his means and hasn't given too much too far in terms of his performance, sure he's playing well but he can play better when pushed.

His first challenge will be this Tuesday when he faces Wawrinka, very tough opponent and first REAL challenge, looking forward to this one and hopefully Murray can indeed rise to the challenge and play to his best. His next few games really are a fantastic build up to the latter stages and as I said earlier when the draw was made, it really was kind to him and put him in a great position.

Think it is Monday his next match to keep the day free between matches to fit in 4 to the Sunday.

Yes I know that...its not something which is unusual to tennis after all. Most sports early rounds consist of playing the "lower orders" of players/teams. I'm merely saying that I cant judge him yet until I see him against someone else who is a contender for the title. I remember more than one occassion where Henman blitzed all his early opponents (one tournament in particular where he didnt drop a single set until the semis), then got someone who was truly a challenger and struggled and lost over the course of the sets.

Just saying that at the moment I cant quite judge how likely he is to win this year until I see him against someone else who might have a legitimate claim on the title.
