New Shimano 105 brakes on my hybrid : Problem

I'm upgrading various bits and pieces on my bike so today I bought some Shimano 105 brakes. I've just tried fitting them but the pads don't seem to slide down far enough to clear the tyres, they seem to catch by about 2-3mm. (pics show them as far down as they'll go).

Am I just being stupid and there's some secret adjustment that I've missed or have I just bought the wrong brakes or something?

Can the pads be turned upside down or swopped sides? They look slightly offset, although thats probably just the camera angle . . .

Your fork probably requires long reach calipers.

id take a round file to them but i love breaking things

really obvious one and not sure its even possible on a roadie but check your wheels fully pushed into the dropouts

That certainly looks like the case. I just thought that all calipers would be the same, appears that I was wrong, doh!

Compare your old to your new and you'll soon see if there's a difference

I had that on a bike I bought from halfrauds, I nicely carved a groove into the tyre
