I was just looking at some threads this morning and the abbreviations are pointless!

Scooby - Subaru
Yammy - I have no idea what this is!
X - MX5

I think so many of them are pointless! It takes a fraction longer to type out the actual name, its just so annoying! Obviously before some posters start saying "oh i should write 1994 Mazda MX5 then", no just MX5!

What are you opinions on this?

Nee naw nee naw nee naw nee naw :p

Yammy means Yamaha, most of what you listed are just pet names rather than abbreviations.

Never heard an MX5 referred to as an 'X' but otherwise no they don't annoy me, with the exception of "Bimmer" ;)

Never heard of "X" for an MX5, what a bizarre abbreviation. There are all sorts of cars with "X" as part of their name.

Never liked "Scooby" for an Impreza, don't really like "Gixxer" for a Suzuki GSXR either. Or Kwak for Kawasaki come to mention it.

Loads in the bike world. They don't bother me.

Elsie = Yamaha 350/250LC
Gixxer = GSXR
Duke = Any Ducati
Priller = Any Aprilia
Trumpet = Any Triumph
Z = Any Kawasaki Z or GPz or ZZR
Beemer = BMW
Wing = Goldwing
Hog = Harley Davidson
Bonnie = Triumph Boneville

Tons of others.

The Beemer/Bimmer thing is used mainly in motorcycling circles to differentiate between BMW bikes and cars. Bimmer = Car, Beemer = Bike.

Nope they dont annoy me at all, just like regional slang doesnt bother me. And come on 'Yammy' surely you can hazard a guess at that, 'aint no rocket science!

I don't like it when people refer to their cars by the chassis model, EP3 for example. or when someone says they drive a "225" and you have to use some detective skills to narrow down that they actually drive a Renaultsport Megane 225.
