Best film of the decade, so far?

For me it would be:
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Science of Sleep
- Tekkonkinreet

There are waaaaay too many decent films out this decade though - Finding Nemo, Donnie Darko, Pan's Labrynth, Hellboy 2 etc. (I can't think of many at the moment, brain's fried...) Unfortunately, there's a lot of rubbish too but I guess that would be the same no matter the decade...

2 films to make you cry:
Green Mile
7 Pounds

...and the rest:
Serenity
Signs
I, Robot
Blades of Glory
Spiderman 2
300
The Butterfly Effect

I love how these threads work, Some guy gives his answer, 10 people jump on him for having taste different from their own, Rinse and repeat :D

I like the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Matrix, hated the other 2 movies though, reloaded and revolution

OK, watched Dark Knight today.

5/10.

I must admit that I wasnt impressed by Dark Knight. It was OK, but it certainly wasnt as good as some people suggested it to be.

It must be stated that I'm in the minority as it is one of the most popular and highest grossing movies of all time.

Amelie, Spirited Away, Lost in Translation, Little Miss Sunshine, Big Fish - hard to choose between them really. Was also going to say Fight Club and American Beauty but they were both 1999.

i think LOTR was good, but there wasnt much creative genius behind it, i mean the material was already in the form of the books.

donnie darko would have been mine, they achieved so much on a small budget, and its something original that can't be repeated. Shame they've soiled it a bit with a sequel

Pan's Labyrinth is the best film of the decade and I will outright murder anyone who disagrees with me :p.

I've heard Amelie is brilliant and I've got it on DVD but haven't watched it, it's on my to do list as of now.

LOTR is probably the best and most important block buster of the decade. There are a ton of films that would never have been made if it wasn't for it, and a ton more that tried to match and fell way short e.g Troy, Pirates of the Caribean, Narnia, kingdom of Heaven. And i disagree about the CGI, I think it looks fairly fresh, mainly since it's built upon a bed rock of actual sets and models instead of being 100% Green screen like star wars/ transformers etc.

I've never understood this logic (not picking on you mate, as loads say the same thing). Why does a dodgy sequel (or a reamake) make the original any less of a movie? It stays exactly the same. It doesn't change by being imitated, redone, remade etc etc.

The only thing you can argue is that it lessens the impact of the original to have the same thing rehashed over and over again. But I'd argue that a great film is a great film - it's longevity isn't dependant on it's initial impact, and it's greatness doesn't suffer because of others cashing in on the original's success.

Serenity was a great film, shame they had to cancel Firefly to make it.

I don't think I could really pick a single film. Man on Fire was pretty damned awesome though, just as an action film. :)

For me,

Lost In Translation
Spirited Away
Road To Perdition
Layer Cake
Catch Me If You Can
Juno

Some might disagree with mine but there are some shocking choices in this thread. I Robot, really

I would also stick Oceans 11 there but that's more of a personal fave than a great movie

Oh an Amelie is good but I can never sit through it in one go, don't know why...

The Prestige; really liked this film

American Gangster was outstanding too

Personally, I found the Fountain to be pretentious tripe!

Can we add a year so I can include The Matrix? I can watch it again and again... same with American Beauty.

Gladiator is amazing though, I was in awe when I watched it.
