Hopefully Orange will update it too, if not it is still good to hear Samsung are adressing the issue.
 
Good news if that is true about the codec! Orange better provide an update including it though, as I don't have access to XP to debrand the firmware :(.
 
Why noy try using VMWare? it supports USB for the guest machine

also, I read that they are going to enable the Pc Suite Updater, so that might make the situation a bit easier
 
I've debranded my phone but have severalquestions:

1. After debranding using the latest Russian firmware there were a couple of leftover bits of russian like bookmarks, default applications and so on. In messaging setting the message center in use is in russian and says “[Russian Text] SIM”. It still seems to work though.
2. How do I uninstall some of the default applications in the phone that I do not use, they do not show up in the application manager.
3. In phone dialing mode I want the alphabet to show up 'abc', 'def', etc. Is there an option for this. I made a call and was asked to enter a password using my keypad and had to do it from memory.
4. Whats the best video and or audio media player.
5. Any other useful apps people would like to share.

By the way

VLC Media Player will soon be coming to Symbian S60:D:D:D:D:D:D
 
This is probably a stupid question but can't find a definet answer so going to ask it any way :-)

Does this phone support Micro SD HC cards?

I thought it would be ok with any Micro SD card upto 16GB would be fine but when I went to buy one I was told my device should show the HC logo on it but it doesn't-just normal Micro SD one so now I'm not 100% sure.
 
Pending the available upgrade for the Samsung Omnia HD by the manufacturer, we can give you some more info on the next update. Samsung will release the update for this terminal initially in Italy. I will be in our country (Italy) to benefit ifatti before the others of this important new update.

In addition to some graphic improvements, with the addition of widgets and games, will also finally changed the audio codec when recording videos. Unfortunately, the change will apply only codec to record movies in HD or at 1280 × 720 pixels. The other resolutions will continue to have the current codec. Future updates then implement the new codec to lower resolutions.
 
What's to prevent people downloading the Italian release and just switching the language? Generally firmwares are continent based in any case, are they not?

Not that I mind as I mostly record in HD if at all, but that's still a bit backwards.

I still cant understand the battery life on this phone. I went away for three days, used it as a mp3 player several hours a day, watched a couple of full length movies, made a few phone calls, left on standby 24hrs a day , took some photos and a couple of short videos and came back still with 1 bar. Proved itself as an excelent phone.

Next battery charge and its drained in under a day with light use, full nights charge then same again. Double checked and no programs running in background.

The only difference I can tell is that at home I have a 3g signal (fairly weak), whilst away I only got 2g (Strong signal). I know battery life is worse on 3g but surely not this much!

My first charge lasted 2 days of almost constant messing, before I charged it up with 2 bars to go.

The past two days its gone flat in less than 12 hours, and I've barely touched it, I'm thinking it will even itself out after a few days, Its not that surprising, the Tytn II I've just upgraded from had seemingly random battery usage as well.
