Looking at getting a contract now, as my old PAYG phone has broken.

Need more texts than minutes
Not 24 month
Decent free phone- WiFi if available, otherwise 3G is fine
Possibly free internet

Anything else? :)

Thank you.

I use Orange Dolphin 25, which is £20 a month if bought online. Not sure what phones you can get with it, as I started last summer, but it's unlimited texts and 200 minutes.

I'd buy a phone out right - always some good good deals about that are really cheep. Then go with o2 Simplicity which has 600 xmins, 1200 texts and a free alowace eg extra 200 xmins, free internet, free landline calls, free o2 to o2 calls etc.

The mins you get on contract is terrible and the best bit about simplicity is you can cancel any time as you only need 30days.

T-Mobile have some decent sim only 30 day contracts like the £20 one I'm on at the moment gives you 600 x-net minutes and unlimited texts as well as 1gb data allowance (which is nice compared to O2s 200-250mb or whatever).

The fact he's on PAYG at the moment kind of implies to me that he probably doesn't use a huge number of minutes though (especially as he's stated texts are more important than mins).

Obviously it depends on what price you can get a phone you want for 'standalone' but generally speaking I've found that you can get an 'OK' phone even on cheap contracts. If like me you're the type of person who is perfectly happy to keep the same phone for 18 months then there's nothing wrong with a contract. £18 on Virgin will get you 250mins and unlimited texts plus a 'free' phone

when will people get over this old wifes tale? its 250mb on payg 'unlim' bolt on not for pay monthly customers.

Ive been on all networks and been on £20/month, £25/month and £30 a month contracts.

I am now with Tesco mobile pay and go and its by far the best.

£15 topup gets you £30 worth of call credit for the month. I use the £30 in the month then have £15 left. Best customer service ever, straight through on sunday evening to someone speaking english, sending me a new sim card for free with all my credit in tact and my old number.

Reception is fantastic (better than mates or orange and vodafone)

£20 a month gets you £40 free credit

That looks great! I was looking at various £15/£20 pm contract deals, but having seen this, it looks far better - get £4.50 via Quidco for activating too - thanks for sharing :D

no problem, everyone automatically thinks "tesco mobile, what a pile of crap" but im the one laughing with max reception most places, not tied into a contract, cheap and easily enough credit for the average user

edit - im also doing the triple points thing so my mums tesco card get her some free wine after a few months!
