Hello,

I've installed and setup my i7 bundle in a new Antec 1200 case, yet i'm finding the idle temp when in BIOS to be 66-67 degrees C. Checking around the forum thats way to hot just for idle. I'm not sure of the room temp, but its not over 30 degrees

I've applied a tiny thin layer on the bottom of the fenrir cooler and tightened it down as much as I can (CPU Came with its own thin layer). Case fans are at full, disabled auto fan so it just runs at maximum.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've not loaded Windows onto it yet, already a little concerned at the temps just in BIOS. Would it be advised to install windows and try again then?

If I read that right, you've applied another layer of cooling compound on the heatsink in addition to the layer already on the CPU.

Too much cooling compound is a bad thing and can hinder cooling.

What voltages and how much case cooling do you have?

Idle temps do seem rather high perhaps the base of the heatsink isn't totally flat?

Hi guys, sorry for late reply been working on it all day. Found mostly its due to my room (Attic) the ambient temp in here is 28-30degrees, system temp is around 40 and now idling at 60 degrees after tightening down the fenrir (This is all in BIOS). Really I don't think I'm going to get it any lower than that due to the heat, at least in winter here it's freeeeeeeeeeezing.

Unlucky for me my windows 7 burn is dodgy so I can't install anything at the moment to check what it's like in windows. Getting a friend to lend me his working copy tomorrow...fingers crossed.

Another quick question, after the bundle arrived I noticed that the RAM had been installed in slots 2 4 and 6, looking at it it seemed that the fenrir cooler would never fit over the RAM slots so I moved it, now they are in 4 3 and 5. Slots 1 and 2 are inaccessible due to the fenrir fan going over these slots. Is that normal? If so have I put them in the right slots.

Check your motherboard manual, or download one if you don't have it. It will say what slots to use.

Here's how the memory works on i7

CPU 1-2-3-4-5-6

Rams slots should go in 2-4-6.

The only time you need to use 1-3-5 are when you run 12GB.

If you don't use 2-4-6 or 1-3-5 (or all 6) then you are not getting triple channel RAM. Looks like your HSF-motherboard combination do not match well.

Hrmmm, why would the bundle come with RAM that doesn't fit with the CPU provided? @_@ unless I just misjudged it? From here it looks like the RAM (Patriot Viper) wouldn't fit underneath the Fenrir CPU fan. Is there anyone else with this bundle that can advise?

The heatsink itself has groves in which the HSF clip into, this is only on one side of the heatsink. I've followed the instructions on which direction to place the heatsink, I'm going to maybe modify the fan just to raise it 10mm or more allowing the ram to fit underneath...tye wraps ***!

You can mount the fan on the titan offset by 3 fins higher than where it would normally attach if you want the fan to blow towards the rear case exhaust (It will then just clear the patriot vipers IHS. Don't know whether that is better than blowing upwards (obviously case choice makes a big difference here), as my AS5 is in the post, so I haven't had a chance to investigate yet.

i did have mine above ram when i had the viper just a few fins up then rich turned it round 90 degress so it blows up out of the top much better that way.

I might do that myself, I've got the HAF922, so it's also got a massive top fan. I wasn't sure though, as it would be slightly offset from the top fan, whereas it lines up well with the rear fan. Did you mount your PSU at the bottom of the case? Another option I've considered is swapping out the large top fan for 2 120s, which would line up better with an upward blowing CPU fan, and put the large fan on the side window to blast air at my GTX275s (the 922 does not ship with a side fan but has the mountings).

Slightly off topic; I was amazed as to how big the HAF922 was compared to my old antec 900, the 932 must be huge.
