Just a tit bit, got over 600 photos to trawl through, but these are my favs was definately worth burning to a crisp for!

Some great pics there Stev, I'm sorting through my 500 right now myself. Those Sukhoi RedBull racers were crazy indeed - synchronised knife edge stalling about 20 feet from each other lol, I've not seen anything like that before.

I had a lot of problems with the heat haze - they don't seem to have affected yours though so well done.

I feel like I've been barbecued today in that sun without any shade. If anyone is going tomorrow, take PLENTY of water, suncream and a big hat - it was like sitting in an oven for 8 hours. There were an awful lot of beetroot red people at going home time :)

yeah, this stalling stop was fantastic, they were VERY SLOWLY moving forwards, fantastic skill

PS, whats the make/model of the "old bird"? and is that a bomb bay open on the underside?

Heh you must be the only person in the UK who hasn't been hounded by them for charity donations ;)

Its a Avro Vulcan, the first "complex" plane (to my knowledge) in the UK in private hands and flightworthy. The jet started on the design board just after the second world war as a V-Bomber, a plane capable of carrying nuclear weapons a considerable distance around the globe. I think they only saw conflict during the Falklands though, and were used to conventially bomb the runway to prevent the Argentinian airforce from taking off.

You can read more about this particular one here: http://www.vulcantothesky.org/

And yes, its the bomb bay doors open on that picture.

Thanks for the comments, it was my first airshow and im glad it went well, it was also the first time Ive used my new 50D, upgrading from a 1000D i dont know how I ever managed before!

and as a reward...more Vulcan porn.

so happy to see a 50 year old plane that still looks like it could be a modern bomber!

What lens(es) were you using out of interest Stev? I was mainly using the 70-300 but found myself wanting more reach.

I took about 800, but imported them in Lightroom only to find that a great big mark has appeared on my sensor :/ Will see what I can salvage and go get a nice thorough clean before Shoreham in August.

For the vulcan/red bull/Typhoon I was using a 70-300 IS USM but for the red arrows I was using just a 17-50 Tamron, there are some times I wished I had another 100 on my telephoto lens, so I could get more detail on the cockpits, but thats just lens envy as everyone else within like 10 feet of me was toting "L" lenses :/, never seen so many, lensforhire must have had a busy weekend.

*does the happy dance for '558 in the air again*

Still more impressive than pretty much anything else flying. Apart from possibly the Harrier and the old Bleriot XI at Shuttleworth who is celebrating her 100th birthday this year.

According to TP it wasnt flying today so I think i was very lucky to get it! though I did miss the Virgin airways/ Red arrows combo...but the vulcan easily outdoes that ^_^

Fair enough.

The Virgin/Red Arrows combo was the highlight of the day for me!

I didn't have my camera with me though!

Hey Stev I saw your pics and decided to go - got there late and parking was a really bad but I managed to get a few shots - thought I would post here rather than start a new thread - hope you dont mind:confused:

Great day - well half day out - shame the Vulcan never made it up on Sunday

but thats just lens envy as everyone else within like 10 feet of me was toting "L" lenses :/, never seen so many

I saw more 100-400L lenses this weekend than I've had hot dinners. They've become the Burberry of the airshow circuit... once an exclusive status symbol, now common as muck. :-)

I thought there was supposed to be a credit crunch on! The only thing crunching at Biggin were people's vertebrae as they crumbled under the weight of so much waved hardware.

Andrew McP... off to clean the sun cream off his Burberry ;-)
