hi all ;)

recently got rid of my pentium D that insisted on maxing @ around 90c and then turning off. was idaling around 80ish (no fires WOOT!):eek::eek: (couldnt even play cs 1.6 :()

got myself a nice e6700 comming soon to play with. got the crappyest mb in history hence no overclocking suport even thru software apps, so 2.66GHz it is.

i have no plans to upgrade this system, next upgrade is a long way off, and wont involve this platform.

ive never had the privilege of high res gaming, but might be nice to see......

so what gfx card is going to keep me in the game (literally)the longest WITHOUT throwing unnecessary money away on a card that my e6700 will bottleneck

thanks in advance from the new boy :P

ps. my mobo only suports pci-e version 1 :S any ideas how this could effect me?

What motherboard do you have? What's the budget you have for a new card? What resolution is your screen?

motherboard is a asus p5vd2-mx se

budget? i thought i was going to run into the limitations of my cpu before i hit the limits of my budget. i was thinking about a 4870, but could stretch to a 4890 if i could make full use of it.

the thurthest i can scroll my slider in windows is 1440 x 1080, and it does that so i supose thats the max?

rite so in concusion, the old pci-e is gunna work fine with v2 most likely? and a 4870 is the way to go, with about the best preformence im gunna get with my e6700 @ stock?

I used to have that exact motherboard, was awful. at the time I also had e6400 and HD4850 playing games @ 1440x900 it ran everything maxed out (except crysis) so a 4870 would be plenty.

I'm at 1600x1200 which is a larger screen then yours, and I find a single 4870 more than enough.

If you wanted to save extra money, 512MB would suffice. :)
