I've been mulling over giving myself a treat with a long weekend to Ireland.

We have some Irish people here I believe, so if you could take some time away from your drinking session and offer me some advice.

Places to go/stay.

Things to do.

Recommended drinks.

If anyone else here has been to Ireland some feedback will be brilliant.

Don't bother with Dublin anyway. I don't think there are any Irish people left there these days with the Crime, cost and amount of immigrants.

Try somewhere along the west coast - or lower mid-counties. Tipperary is a nice spot with some lovely villages.

What sort of holiday are you after ?

sight seeing and a nice relaxing one.

more of a getaway, so hassle free would be brilliiant.

as i live in a chavvy and crime ridden estate somewhere peacefull and nice would be brilliant. always wanted to go to Ireland so it's the best option for moi.

stress free is a real factor :D as me and the friend both live rather HNNNGGGH lifestyles.

and when your finished that have another Genius and a few halfin's of Poteen ;) mind though its 35 mil halfs here compared to some places I believe thats nearly a double in parts of Uk (which probably don't matter really as most have a few tightners before going out anyways)

places to visit the Portrush/Portstwart area is really good, scenery, coastal area, good eating places and nightlife.

So would a Guiness be a good drink?

I'm sure there's other beers and stuff :P

They have the same drinks as here, at twice if not three times the cost, with worse weather, and no more history or interesting stuff.

Sadly i am spending a lot of time over there at the moment, its bloody expensive (seriously) and they have very bad connections/roads and nothing really to make up for it.

Go for the scenery out in the country for a relaxed time perhaps, but i will echo that dublin is a wasted trip.

the west coast is nice for a getaway. I always liked kerry for a weekend break, though you cant go far wrong on the west coast.

I would tend to avoid the cities, particularly dublin unless you like scumbags (think of a cross between ****** and chavs), horrible english stag/hen parties (i hate temple bar so very much) and ridiculously overpriced everything.

Im sure dublin is a lovely place to visit (lies!), but with the peace and landscape available on the west coast, sure why would you bother?

the 'good' thing is that ryanair's 'dublin' airport stand is practically in meath anyway :p its a bloody long walk from the ryanair gates to the baggage pickup/exit.

Where in Ireland? West Coast of Ireland near Dingle or Achill Island is awesome stuff, going there myself in a few weeks if I can get a chance.

Not bothered at all :D As long as it's nice and quite and I don't hear the thundering sound of chavvy cars in the distance.

I have been warned off Dublin by a friend, they spent the majority of the holiday there but only went to the country side for 2 days which they deeply miss a lot more. Mainly as one of the group got mugged on the way back to the hotel.

Of course :) the same as all over, its just that I'm very fond of Guiness :D
taste will vary from bar to bar, but when you get that bar with the taste that you like, be prepared for the shootout with choclate shot guns the day after ;)

Come see NI, its a bit cheaper though everyone is a little less comprehendable...... :D (well bits of belfast if nothing else).

Theres plenty of sites to see, just not portrush/stewart and derrys night life... (i warned you!!) like the giants causeway is pretty cool, along with all the random tours n things you can get to do.

For drinks you might get a little dissapointed with local dinks... (well in the north anyway) as might get stuck with the less enviting choices of harp, tennents or guiness.... (harp is bad, but tennents is worse and guiness makes you look like a massive tourist....though you will be)

If you want to go somewhere a bit quieter, id recommend Kerry and Cork on the south west coast :), its quite a bit more open country with some pretty cool/random stuff to see, like a lighthouse on the most south westernly point (across a massive bridge!)

Northern Ireland is very good. Belfast's a great city, and venturing north, Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede is amazing in terms of coastline etc.

Im just back from Tipperary well a few weeks, Its great down the south, Limerick is a bit of a dive tho.

Corks not to bad but getting like dublin full of forigners
