O2 Alert Pranks?

Since Saturday I have received a couple of 'notification' from O2 Alert alledgely on my iPhone, they both say O2 Alert: (random silly message) with a dismiss button on the bottom. Once you press the dismiss button the message disappears and there is no traces of it anywhere.

I couldnt get a pic of the first message as I hit the dismiss button thinking it was a text message but I did manage to get a pic of the one I just received a few minutes ago.

As you can see the message takes up the whole screen and I cant do anything on the phone until I dismiss it. My initial thought was it someone abusing Push notification from OS3.0 but surely thats a huge security hole if it is?

Anyone know the root cause of this? Its no worse than text marketing spams but its still a nuisance and I rather not have to put up with it every few days.

Can you change your Push Settings on the iPhone? As on my SE mobile it comes up as accept PUSH textes from Advertisements & Anonymous

never used an iphone so dont know if you have settings like that

I think there's an APP which can send those types of messages. My guess is that it's a mate messing around with you.

Hah its not a pile of dandruff, just a crappy desk that loses its colour when its wet. I dont have any apps that has push notification so I guess thats out of the question? Once I press the dismiss button the thing disappears leaving no trace.

As far as I know, Push can only do 3 types of alerts and thats a sound, badge and a text message style alert. The one I get is more of a pop up advert, but it does play my text message sound when I receive it.

I tried googling whether anyone else has had the same problems, but no luck!

It's a flash SMS message, not quite sure how you send them though!

That doesn't work on my phone - it just appears as a standard text with the *go in front of it

Doh, only one of my friends has an iPhone as far as I know, so I can't exactly test it out on him, I wont be able to have any fun lol

I had an app on my N95 that would let me send these 'flash SMS' messages, I think it was CoolSMS or SMS+ or something along those lines. Was fun sending out random rubbish for a few days, until the novelty wore off
