i7 4GHZ Bundle...Assistance please.

I might do that myself, I've got the HAF922, so it's also got a massive top fan. I wasn't sure though, as it would be slightly offset from the top fan, whereas it lines up well with the rear fan. Did you mount your PSU at the bottom of the case?

yes my psu is at botton of case with the fan facing downwards

It has its own thin layer of the arctic therm paste that was pre-applied on the CPU.

the cpu is cleaned with thermal paste remover and surface purifier before shipping

i know because i do this to all of them to ensure a clean mounting surface for the end user

you should check you have enough paste on there

the bundle should have a usb pen with all the mounting info and bios backups/instructions etc

@rjkoneill

Looking down at the CPU though, I could see it was dulled from the thermal paste, also around the sides of the CPU clip there had been thermal paste smeared around (grey lumps...)

Also rj I have the fenrir cooler pointing from right to left (blowing air through the heatsink out the back of my case). This is where the problem is of it not giving enough space for the RAM, is this how OC setup or face it downwards blowing the air up out of the case?

just give it a wipe over with TIM,regarding the fan it will be ok if you have it just above the ram about 3-4 fins higher or turn it so the fan is blowing upwards out of your top fan hope that helps

chech here my build http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18025177

Hmm I didn't get the usb pen drive, but I'm ok with that. Same question as Neloz though, do you recomend the fan should blow upwards or towards the back of the case?

I'll take a look at the Pen Drive I received, and maybe put another thin layer of paste on, I would've thought though the amount I placed on the heatsink could do the trick.

I've decided to go with adding another layer of paste on, via the instructions (pea sized in the middle without spreading it out) the microscopic layer I placed on the heatsink, do you recommend wiping that off as well as cleaning any off from the CPU? Or just leaving it and add the properly applied layer on.

Wow, silly me. I followed the instructions and temps are nice and low now. idling at 29C and full load bang on 60C. Inserted the CPU Fan clips 3 notches up on the cooler, giving enough space to fit the RAM into 1, 3 and 5 slots (according to manual). Thanks for all the help and advice guys, much appreciated.

I'm having the same problem with my bundle and i did not get a usbpen with it. any other solution to this.

you need to put LOTS of TIM on there

to fill the gaps on the contact plate

thats the only thing i dislike about direct contact heatsinks

we had the same issue with the akasa nero when i7 was first released

One tip I've seen for the direct contact heatsinks, is to fill the gaps between the heatpipes and the cpu block with paste, and then apply as much paste as is needed to cover the cpu. I'd post a link, but they are a retailer (although a US retailer), so unless I hear otherwise, I won't.

I have applyed a lot of paste on the heat sick and some on the cpu. in the bios idle temps are between 45 and 50. speedfan is 45 idle, goes up to 89 when running primer95. Core temps idle at 38 to 45 go up to 85 with primer. my system only runs primer for 5min then it turns of. is this a heat issue

Well it's an instability problem so you're either running your chip too fast or at too low a voltage. Also it sounds like you've used too much paste - "a lot" is too much. You only need a blob the size of one or two grains of rice on the CPU, none on the heatsink.

I tried using just 2 grains of rice amount of paste on the CPU and temps were up to 98C. vcole is at 1,3volts cpu is running @ 3,8 . If I push the voltage up will that not leed to more heat

Don't be, I made mistakes for not taking time to check the pen drive. It might be worthwhile though as a suggestion to OcUK to include an instructional video on how to setup each individual bundle, or go into detail some more. Screen shots on the pen drive showed a different MB and cooler.

no -you need a lot with direct contact coolers as you need to fill the gaps and negate air pockets

I actually regret not getting this bundle, as I have a very similar system and I can't get my system stable at stock frequency!!!!

I wish OcUK had a repair service so that I could just ship all my hardware to them and have it tested properly...

I should have just got all my hardware from here, but I only got the CPU and GFX card... this has been a lesson learnt for me thats for sure!!!

15 people complaining out of 300 isn't bad at all IMO,, I wouldn't let something as small as this hold me back from buying this bundle..
