I've been offered 8GB Black Dragon DDR2 6400 5-5-5-15 quite cheap.

It'll be replacing my current Geil Ultra 4-4-4-12 4x1GB.

I also plan on getting a Q9550 soon, which I'll be overclocking to at least 3.4GHz, will the Black Dragon effect overclocking at all, or is it decent for overclocking?

Thanks,
Craig.

Are those timings correct? 5-5-5-15 for PC6400 seems quite high?

No wonder they have trouble overclocking if this is the case as you'd have to slacken the timings a lot to get high clock speed on them

Yep they're 5-5-5-15 @ 800Mhz with 1.8v

They'll do 800Mhz with 4-4-4-12 @ 2v though

Is the Geil Ultra PC6400?

Yep

I have black dragon, max ive ever been able to get it too stable is 900Mhz.

I would stay away tbh..

I don't plan on overclocking the memory, I was just wondering whether the RAM will limit my overclock if going to ~3.4GHz.

Yep, 5-5-5-15. I'll probably stick them up to 2v (my current RAM is on 2v) if it'll give me 4-4-4-12.

I could go for the OCZ (OCZ2VU8004GK), but that's 5-6-6-18 stock. If I got the OCZ running at 4-4-4-12 would it be better than the Black Dragon running at 4-4-4-12? Does the OCZ RAM run at 4-4-4-12 with 2.0/2.1v?

What's the difference between the OCZ 5-6-6-18 (OCZ2VU8004GK) and the OCZ GOLD 5-5-5-18 (OCZ2G8004GK)? The OCZ2G8004GK is quite a bit cheaper for some reason.

I've found the OCZ GOLD 5-5-5-18 for around £30 (2x2GB).

What's it like? Would it be worth going for the more expensive OCZ RAM (e.g. OCZ2T800C44GK), will the above go to 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v?

[Edit]
Actually, I think I'll just go for the OCZ2P10664GK. 5-5-5-18, 2.1v 8500 1066MHz

Will hopefully order this afternoon.

I have some, really really stable at stock, had absolutely no problems with it at all. Not sure how it is with clocking though.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of good things about OCZ and stability. I think I'll go for the 1066MHz 8500 (5-5-5-18) as it's pretty cheap anyway.

I run mine at 1:1 422mhz because it suits my overclock. I ran them at 480mhz with a previous CPU.
