Best TV Series of the decade, so far?

I take it from the replies that this thread is limited to US drama series?

Not AFAIK, but it's interesting that most of the suggestions are form the USA. I have to say I agree: the standard of UK drama is dire ATM, with only Rome worth watching that I remember.

I'm inclined to agree that The West Wing is the best. The Wire is good, but a little traditional. House was good for two series, then ran out of ideas. Lost is complete nonsense. Dexter is good (I've only seen the two terrestrial series). NCIS is fun, but hardly classic TV, any more than CSI is. Although the first three CSI (Vegas) series probably deserve to be in. If we're allowing WEst Wing (started late 1999 in the US at least) then I'll add Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

In no particular order:

The West Wing
The Wire
The Shield
The Sopranos
Family Guy

I'm surprised at the number of votes for Heroes, tbh, it was never really my cup of tea - I think I was hoping it would be more x-men related when it first came out. But the gf loved it and even she's been turned off by the latest episodes.

10 years is far to much to choose from and most people are simply picking stuff you have watched recently.

when was band of brothers produced?
Spaced season 2 was 2001 I think?

recently been enjoying sons of anarchy more than the big hits.

The West Wing for me, no question.

Then followed by Friends and One Tree Hill.

Others such as Buffy, Angel, House, Gilmore Girls (yes), Ally McBeal, 24, Alias, Dawson's Creek, The OC, they all are good but not as consistent as the 3 above.

Coupling
Scrubs
House
The Sopranos
Firefly

I can't pick out a single favourite, and even that is a summary list of shows I love rather than my actual top 5.

Band of Brothers was 2001, and tbh the newer show have been better than some of the older stuff (imo) but things like scrubs, two and a half men, how I met your mother are good and they are from early 2000-now

The the sheer popularity and recognition it has i'd have to go for LOST

It is/has been original, entertaining and intriguing with good character development, all the pointers for a great tv show.

For the topics it covers and the overall quality of the production i would have to say BSG. Terrific action and some superb actors, it wasn't afraid to avoid sensitive issues (racism, religion, crime, poverty, work ethics to name a few). A great drama that portrayed realistically the effects of a nuclear holocuast. One of the best shows of the sci-fi genre and of this generation imo.

For the novelty factor and just quirkiness id have to mention House as well. A Sherlock Holmes doctor with an attitude. Whats not to like?
