Best TV Series of the decade, so far?

For me, and me personally, they may not win on massive technical merit:

Scrubs
The OC
Boston Legal
Heroes
Family Guy

I really have no idea why I've never followed more TV dramas, like I've never really watched 24, Lost, Prison Break, Sopranos, The Wire, The Unit, Arrested Development... the list goes on. I know I'd probably like quite a few of them.

Dexter
Heros
24
Lost
Prison Break

Lost and Prison Break have only recently started to fall down in rank.

The Sopranos
Dexter
The Wire

in that order

btw did anyone notice Sil (Steve van Zandt) from The Sopranos, playing guitar for Springsteen ?
Coolest man on the planet imo :D

Band of Brothers has to be the tip top for TV shows but the plethora of others suggested all have their own cases I guess!

Battlestar Galactica would be my second placed bet - absolutely awesome show that didn't over-run and kept you hooked right till the end.

The Wire.

Everything else was just typical televisual melodrama, with concessions to an episodic artifice.

Joint: West Wing/BSG
Dexter
Deadwood
The Shield

I'll probably have The Wire on there once I get round to watching it. HBO rocks.

Special mention to breaking bad too.

Honourable mentions go to :

Bones (which has consistently improved with each series)
Dexter (brilliant original concept and very well written)
Firefly (absolute TV blasphemy that it wasnt given more time)

However...for sheer scope, scale, effects, acting, writing, emotion, aesthetics. There can be only 1 winner. 1 overriding standout TV series of the decade.

It simply has to be Band of Brothers.

Black Books
Ideal
The Mighty Boosh
The Big Bang Theory
The Inbetweeners

dont watch many drama series im more of a comedy guy.

if its classed as a series Top Gear would have to top the list though.

Black Books is funny. I am seeing Dylan Moran when he comes to Edinburgh :D

That's his regular gig, he isn't actually an actor.

1. The Sopranos
2. The Wire
3. Deadwood
4. Curb Your Enthusiasm
5. The Office (UK)
6. Peep Show

The Big Bang Theory is too new to be listed, its not even finished.

Prison Break was good for 1 season, 2nd one was okay, 3rd + 4th was just milking it too far.

Band of Brothers should win this, but, also technically not the same as the rest listed here. The budget it had was lots more, it was only 10 episodes (vs 200 + of the West Wing), was a true story instead of fictional (but that shouldn't matter). It's mainly because it isn't a normal series structure i discounted it.

Oh, I forgot, ER, the longest and most ground breaking hospital drama out there.

BSG is good too, but i felt season 3/4 lost its way a bit.

The Soparnos should be top but i lost interest half way through, it's just the same week in week out. Someone is going to cap someone, and that idiot son of his is going to get into trouble one way or another. One day i will get the boxset and watch it all.

Six Feet Under - Not watched this but everyone i know who has, says its the best series ever, but they also haven't seen the West Wing :p
