Basically the title explains everything...

Wanted to know which 500GB-1TB hard drive is good to buy on price to performance ratio...

Gime me some examples please...

P.S Don't want to spend a lot of money on hard drives:(

Stay away from Maxtor. I've always had good experience with Western Digital and Seagate. Mind you, stay away from the 7200.11 series of the Seagates. There's been some horror stories about those. The 7200.12's are meant to be more reliable but we are yet to see how they fare in the long run. I also hear good things about Samsung although i don't have experience with them myself.

Every Maxter hdd I've ever bought has failed within a year, I'm on Western Digital hdd's now and they are pretty reliable.

WD or Samsung here, Have had Maxtor & they were a bit flaky.

Love my Samsung F1 & will deffo be getting a larger sized one soon.

I have F1s, WD green and hitachi 1Tb drives, all have been working fine. had to replace an F1 but i don't think thats a make problem.

I have had a few maxtors as well over the years, the 60gb drives all failed but every other ones i have had have had no problems (80gb, 160gb, 250gb IDE drives)

I would have said WD until yesterday, when my brand new 1tb Black arrived undetectable in the BIOS on 2 computers.

Basically meh between brands IMO. Highest chance of failing in first month, then after a couple of years. According to Slackworth, there is next to no difference in the rate of return of hdds across manufacturers.

i only buy Samsung and Western Digital.

I've seen way too many dead Seagate and Maxtor drives to trust them.

although google claimed that no manufacturer is more reliable than another..
