Since someone suggested an official Nokia N97 thread, I thought I would take hold of the reigns and make it!

So, this is a thread to chat and big up the almighty N97 with info, questions and everything else :)

OK, well today I had to say goodbye to my brand new N97 as I had no coverage in work or at home on T-Mobile.

Just placed an order for another one on Vodafone.

Nokia N97 (Black)
Handset Price = Free
600 Minutes
Unlimited Texts
Unlimited Web
Free Insurance for 1 Month (6.99 thereafter).
18 Month Contract
Line Rental = £40

Delivery on Saturday :)

Does anyone know if Voda have their own locked down firmware on this phone? IE disabling lots of features. Is this something that you can get around (IE unlock the phone?).

Any info appriciated.

Thanks

^The handset you will receive is gonna be Vodafone Firmware branded. last time i flashed a Vodafone branded handset was the Nokia N95, used an application called Nemesis. obviously the warranty will be voided with Vodafone if you choose to go down that road.

I got a call from the retentions team at Vodafone today offering me a chance to upgrade early, needless to say i got a good deal and went for it, phone gets delivered tomorrow.

Thanks for the info :), I think it you debrand any phone on any network I think the warrenty is voided anyway, it certainly was with o2 but it still didnt stop me getting a new phone when I accidently dropped it.

Yeah the deal I got was the best around really, I didnt want to pay for the handset if poss, had to be an 18 month contract and had to have unlimited web and unlimited text.

Happy :) just wish I could have it before Saturday. Oh well

This may have been asked before but which networks have what colours, i know certain ones are usually on certain networks. I'll probably be getting one on 3, so just wondering, also any chance of pics? I know there's loads on net but some actual real life in an ocuk'ers hands would be good.

I read somewhere that the white n97 is exclusive to phones4u for a set time, probably a few weeks or a month or two.

[EDIT] According to Pocket Lint, it's an 8 week exclusive with P4U

Give him the slap of death when he comes round tomorrow.

:D

Hmm, I'm feeling torn between this and holding out for the HTC Hero. I think I'll see what the new firmware will address before I make a decision.

Why are people choosing this over the HTC Magic/Hero?

Veering off-topic, but my reasons were

Vs both

- Symbian OS is more mature
- better camera
- keyboard
- higher-resolution screen
- iPlayer support
- more storage
- FM transmitter
- aesthetics

Vs Hero:

- Available now

Vs Magic

- 3.5mm headphone jack

I've only listed the negatives, there are some things about those phones which I prefer, but I decided to go with the Nokia, all things considered.

As some of you, I am currently using the factory fitted screen protector which is no good unless your fingers are bone dry due to the resistance/friction. I'm thinking of getting a Martin Fields screne protector again as the surface is smooth and good for a touch phone, but at £12.99+postage I'm considering alternatives.

Anyone got anything decent to recommend that doesn't use adhesive and not so thin that bubbles become a problem during installation?

I've seen those 10-12pack protectors from the bay but wondering if they are as thin as a freezer bag.

i saw him drive off as well, i tracked it 5 minutes later thinking it had been signed for by our goods in department, however it said refused by recepitant :(

Called Vodafone who rebooked the delivery for tomorrow and refunded me delivery cost because its gonna take an extra day.

Hopefully V11 firmware will be out tomorrow too so i can flash it right away.

I tried out the N97 today, but was not impressed with the UI; it doesn't seem intuitive or fluid enough. And why the heck did they move the spacebar to the side? hardware is good, but UI is very important for me on such a feature laden phone.

After the rather disappointing 5800, I'd hoped that the N97 would be ready to replace my stellar E71; but now I think my E71 is going to stay on for a while.

I got a pack of 5 from the bay for my 5800 and havent had a problem with bubbles or them being not too thin, or too thick. Happy with mine.

are you sure about the os being more mature? its only been out on the 5800 and now the n97. if we were talking about the non-touch screen verion of the os then that would hold true, but as its touch screen its a whole new ball game for nokia.
