Tales of Vesperia

I think i got about 15 hours in or something, im on planet Roak so far. Sadly my 360 decided to RROD on me so ill have to wait until its repaired :(.

Sorry to hear that, I hope it's a speedy turn around.

I'm finding planet Roak to be more enjoyable than the previous places, as the villagers have more side quests, and the battles require more than simply hammering the A button now.

Any way I'm taking it back off topic again.

As soon as SO is done, I'll be getting stuck into Vesperia.
It's a good time for RPGs on the 360 tha's for sure :)

Just had an email saying mine has shipped (from a popular online retailer.)

Got another two games arriving too, but those can wait. Looking forward to the weekend :)

on a side not, what is it about the visual style of ToV that turns you off?

It's the cutesy/childish look tbh.

I also find it very difficult to relate to 8 year olds that save the world, deal with issues of love, and seem to kill with impunity without getting any psychological hang-ups.

Before someone says it, yes I know it's fantasy, and only a game!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of fantasy. But the Tales games (and others that are similar) really push the limits as far as I'm concerned. I just don't dig their look.

Also, I think one or two of you may have read me wrong (or maybe I'm reading some of you wrong). I am not a supporter of graphics > gameplay. Never have been, never will. Visual style and graphics technology are completely different things.

Just got an email saying it shipped :D so it's definitely out tomorrow, but I'm away until Tuesday so I'm not going to get to play it until then.

im hoping for some screens lol..

i really want an RPG on the 360, but cant decide on 3. lost odysee, tov, star ocean, and eternal sonata... damn!

Played this for a few hours last night and im really enjoying it so far. The combat is fun, the voice acting is much better than some of the previous jrpg's ive played on 360 and the music is also brillant. Both battle and boss themes are superb. I cant say much on the story so far as im not far enough into it to comment. The graphics are gorgeous, the art style used just looks amazing and its just a joy to watch the game in action. Its like playing an anime. It looks as though im going to be really sinking my teeth into this one as its one of the best jrpg's ive played in a while.

Just working out if I should pick this up now or wait for it to drop in price as I am getting my own place so more bills shortly...

Well its more the fact that I have decided to buy a Wifi Dongle also, so it will be setting me back about £75 today for both.

Well I've only played it for a few hours and havent really been able to focus on it much (too sunny outside :D) But I'm impressed with the characters, apart from Karol who just annoyed me instantly (But then JRPGs always have these types of characters.)

I love the character interaction and those little random stories that pop-up while on your journey, they really add dimension and appeal to the characters IMO.

The biggest gripe I have with the game so far is the battle system. I'm actually really dissapointed with it. a lot of it seems really clunky and completely brainless button mashings.

Like I said I've not really looked into too deeply, but I find myself just spamming attack while Estelle auto-heals. I've had no sense of the character progression when they level up either. Yeah they learn new Artes, but I find myself using the same one over and over.

The voices seem OK for the main characters (Aside from Karol) I cant help but feel Estelle would be better off having an English accent... but her voice is growing on me.

The story after only a few hours seems to be the normal JRPG type story. Its nothing fantastic so far, but its not bad also. However I will say that the game seems to be paced very well. I dont feel confused about whats going on or where I need to go, so its deffinitely keeping me interested.

I'm hoping the battle system will open up to me as the games goes on, but overall the game feels like a traditional JRPG which is something I've missed since the PS2 days. It looks great, sounds great, typical but well written characters and the story so far has kept me interested and looking forward.

I'll update as I get further into it :)

I found with Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube that early on you use the same attacks, but as you start to level up it becomes a lot more open and combos become key.

Not really sure what it all means but I noticed this has been added free for Gold members to the market place.

Actually there were quite a few dlc packs added today. Trial Skill Pack: Yuri, Trial Skill Pack: Estelle, and Free Gel Set.

I get the game tomorrow or Monday; anyone like to clue me into what these do? :)

Just a few free extras. Some extra boost to existing skills, and some goodies.

Nothing to much too get excited about.

I havent played much since its been too hot, but I've ran into a problem with a boss.

Gattuso the beast (or something similar) by god how do you kill it? It just wipes me out completely without any chance of doing a decent amount of damage.

I've read guides on using the plants to poison it when it gets closer, but he runs so fast at you, when I try and lure him to the plant, he hits me aswell as the plant practically killing me.

It annoyed the hell out of me and I think my only option is to grind out some levels to make my defense stronger

I died on this boss about 5/6 times before I did it, really bloody annoying, awesome game though :p

How did you do it? I've tried killing the little ones first and using the plants, but my party just get wiped out by the time I've finished.

Also what level where you? I think I'm lvl13 atm.
