Ruddy ebay and car parts!

Recently dented my door so thought no problem get one from ebay.

Found someone breaking a car, right colour etc.

Phoned him up, oh its excellent mate, asked a favour for someone to go and collect it and said get the rear bumper if its good too.

So my friend gets them both, get them today.

The rear bumpers a respray using a rattle can of a different colour so its completely useless as it has what i would call medium damage, not "excellent"

The door has also seen a little paint of 5" by 5" area roughly.

Had the same thing with some mk3 rover 200 parts back in the day when we used to all drive those, ordered a whole front end for mine, the bonnet and BOTH wings came with scratches and dents after being described as mint.

This happened to me once when the seller described a Clio wing as being in good condition, when it got delivered there were deep scratches in it down to the primer and even into the plastic in one area.

My response from him was "what do you expect, its a second hand part"

Errr, it means it isn't as new, never used pristine out of the box condition.

Further, it will exhibit the same kind of minor scratches and wear that any similar item would exhibit that had been used for its intended purpose for any period of time...

Was it Simon that got them for you? Seems a coincidence, but if it's a 306 then I wrapped them up with Simon last night.

There's your problem, unfortunately. Asking someone else to go get it for you, when your standards differ from theirs. Regrettably, your comeback at the seller is limited because 'you' essentially agreed to buy them in that condition, because 'you' collected in person rather than postage

Yeah it was those parts.

Ill see if I can improve the door using my G220 and some fairly aggressive compound, but the bumper wont be going on my car!

As for going thorough ebay, I didnt because it was one of those listings "breaking car ask for parts etc" which are fair enough becuase the ebay listing fees are huge and I understand why people do it.

Still a PITA now, tried all the local yards first but nobody had a matching door.

How much do regular auction houses charge for commission? eBay now charge 10% on auctions, it's just ridiculous for a web-based auction where the number of staff and facilities needed are far inferior to that of a real-life auction house of equivalent size. Or even a much smaller auction house.

I wasn't actually suggesting you should have bought through eBay, just that it's risky not to do so unless you're going to collect in person, at which point you have the opportunity to inspect the items and walk away if need be.
Sucks nonetheless.
