I'm sick of working in my hot office

I work in a building where the aircon keeps a section of the building the size of a large supermarket dust free and cooled. Our office is next to the server room and it's always at a constant temperature. I think its been 23c every day for years.

It was 32c in this room when I got home today, aircon has it down to 23c atm.

I work/eat/sleep/live better when its cold.

33'C in an office? Try that in a lab with all your safety gear on doing physical work... :(

Having looked into it, while there is a minimum legal temp you allowed to work at, there is no maximum. All us lab rats are on the verge of kicking of about it as the site safety officer keeps fobbing of our questions about why we cant get air con/tinted windows/slats or somesuch while we make record profits. <Grrr>

The heating/air flow where I work is pretty naff as well - they usually jsut about sort out the "cold" air circulation (no air-con) in time for winter... but don't fix the heating... then fix the heating about the time it starts warming up...

Today was horrid - so close and clammy, skin felt sticky and clothing sticking to you - I do quite a lot of physical work as well.

It wouldn't bother me as much, even if they can't be bothered to cool the place properly, if they acknowledge the conditions have an impact on how well you can work... but no they still expect the same level of output.

A few years back it got to almost 40C under the roof and we still had to work - its actually worse atm even tho the temps are only just below 30C coz its so clammy.

my office is about 3-4 years old.

we have 3 control panels in the office to change the temp. there are 13 people in the office and about 10 of them moan about the temp.

it was so cold in the office this afternoon i was tempted to put the fan heater on. at the end, i just turned up the temp to 21 degrees, from 16.

we have 1 side of the office that is cold and the other is hot.

some people in the office have nearly come to blows over the temp.

i sit by the window and that just acts as a green house.

I was working in a cold, horrible server room without any windows or natural light all day. I felt so rough, nose running, head ache, I was chilled right through by the end of the day. It was total bliss to finally jump into my scorching car that would normally be so sweaty.

the place where i work is diabolically warm in the summer, the "Air con" if thats what you call it consists of taking air from outside and pushing it in, so it's kinda fail when it's hot outside too., as well as beign bloody freezing in winter.

Oh well i wont have to worry about next year i'll likely be redundant in 3 months time.

We have 5 people in a small, flat roof office. It's pretty uncomfortable in summer, especially as you need to concentrate (web development). This year We paid £400 for a portable aircon unit and it's been fantastic. We should have done this ages ago lol. Turns the room icy cool within 5 mins :)

its a killer that there no law for this. the only way ive gotten out of it once is after workmate passed out from the heat. we where 2 floors underground in a boiler room grinding and welding pipes :/ safety goggles with actual puddles of sweat forming in them etc. fun few weeks!

This is the only person who has good reason to complain about heat at work some one doing a real job a mans job not office work ffs :D

I Remember this time last year. Fitting a huge suspended ceiling air conditioner in a phones4U shop. It was hot and sweaty. I felt like falling asleep under it when i got it fitted in and working!

If it's really hot, go in to work in your shorts.

Nothing else.
Drink funny looking cocktails with umbrella's and start talking about how much you enjoy British summer time :)

Take 1 betting shop stuck on the side of a pretty big social club, then add 1 door, 0 windows, 25 old CRT tele's and one big plasma with 5 computers, 2 tills, 1 coffee machine and everything for the CCTV BEHIND a safety glass shield that goes from the desk to ceiling with only gaps at desk level for money and face level for speaking.

There you go :D

Btw i love my job but yes it does get hot.

Aircon in our office broke today! Pump went and water started pouring out, so im sat here on nightshift roasting my balls off, even at this time of day! Its being fixed today hopefully, so when i come back in tonight, i'll be coool :D

we have 1 side of the office that is cold and the other is hot.

It sounds like the cold air from the air conditioning is just not circulating properly. Buying a few cheap stand fans should solve this. Position them so that the cold air from the air conditioning is directly behind them and have them facing the hot areas.
