BMW Bluetooth

Hi All,

I have just bought a 54 plate E46 3 series coupe with bluetooth prep (business cd unit). I can get both my iPhone and SPV Windows mobile to sync with it, they both transfer the contacts list without a problem, and they can both be controlled over bluetooth to make and answer calls - but there is no audio from the car speakers. People can hear me fine I just cant hear them.

I bought it from a BMW dealer so it has 12 months warranty and if this is a fault I can take it back in and have it sorted, but I would rather find out now that it is just a case of unmuting or something then go through the hassle of organising taking it in.

Should just come through the speakers.

Test it with the radio on and get someone to call you - does the radio cut out and the call come in? If not somethings wrong.

I'd say it's a probably a compatability issue.. newer phones may not work with the older bluetooth modules.

This is true. You could do with knowing what version of the Bluetooth ULF your car has.

Yes if someone phones me then the radio cuts out and the unit says 'PHONE' but the ringing doesnt come through the speakers, as soon as I cancel the call (having not heard anything and pressed/turned every button and knob on the headunit) the radio kicks back in so that bit of it all works fine. I placed the phones in the glove box to make sure that other people are hearing me through a mic in the car and not the phones own mic.

How would I find out what ULF my car has?

You can either take the left hand side (passenger side) boot carpet out and have a look at the module yourself, or ask BMW.

Personally, I'd take the carpet out (it takes literally 5 minutes), but I don't mind being hands-on.

I think I can see the unit, is it white with a frequency/cardiograph type image on it? If so it is under a hard plastic section with two plastic rivets which I am struggling to remove in fear they will snap. Will try harder when I get home.

My new 3GS works fine .

I dont ever hear a call I am making ring but it comes over the speakers when it connects up to the person I am calling , it wrings fine when someone is calling me .

When i first connected up the I phone 3GS it was very quiet and I could not hear anyone when going along the road , I tried turning it up with the volume knob onthe radio and nothing happened ,, Use the volumo control on the I phone and it now works a treat .

Now i need to connect up I tunes from the phone to the radio ,,any ideas guys and I am happy to loose my multi cd .
