Best CPU Cooler for an Athlon X2 6000+ Brisbane?

Hi there. You might not want to do this but I thought I would give you my opinions anyway.

I have the 90nm version of this chip, I think that's the Windsor? and yours is the 65nm?
Anyway, yes this chip is toasting. Mine got so hot on the stock cooler the PC shut down lol. I now have some water cooling on it and idle is about 30ish (depending on the weather) and the load I have never seen go above 50C and that was with OCCT running for about 2 hours.

Also I recommend watercooling as it will be quieter. I hope you don't mind me giving you my 2p :)

Buying a W/C set for this chip is imo worse then buying a choclate kettle, if you already have the gear the fair enough. Any how my Brisy runs at 3.4 with orthos at 61c and game loads on 55 that witha sythe mugen and crappy 48cfm fan. Have put the sunbeam fan on today that shoud lower it :p

Could we see a photo of the inside of the box in question please? Favorite game is fitting many things into small boxes, can't wait to go back to matx.

Watercooling will fit in most places thanks to the laing ddc and the tiny reservoirs available, you might be surprised. not that water cooling it is the most sensible option, but if you do so, when you want a faster htpc, the cooling system will already be in place. Plus very quiet is surely a good thing for a htpc.

Pictures please :) (name of case also good)

I've got an ek supreme on an amd x2, it loads at 21 degrees in this heat :)

I have the Windsor core 6000+ also, well, it is now in my Fiancees system, and I get lower temps than this on air!!!

Mine idles at 25c and never goes above 45c on Prime95 Blend...

Case was named in the OP - its an Antec Fusion HTPC case

Well that was friendly. A moment on google has shown there to be at least three Antec Fusion HTPC cases

* Antec Micro Fusion 350 (includes 350W power supply)
* Antec Fusion Remote Black
* Antec Fusion Remote Max

Assume worst case, that youve got the micro

The reservoir would fit better under the cd drive, but be rather inaccessible. Ive found two manufacturers for dual 80mm radiators so far, they'll fit if you clip and fold flat the little steel ridge beside the fans. Fans would then be screwed in from outside, as exhaust.
Laing ddc suspended from the graphics card particularly appeals. Youll lose the last two pci slots, may well be possible to fit it between cpu and gfx card. Ill look into this if you're interested.

I dont know offhand what a thick dual 80mm rad can handle. Im guessing notamazing temperatures, but it wont struggle at all with a X2 and fairly low powered graphics card.

I cant find a 30mm thick rad, so the fans are probably going to need to be external. They might fit on the inside if your motherboard happens to be conveniently laid out.

I used my trusty old Zalman CNPS9700 with Athlon64 X2 6000+, then I used it with my Phenom 9950, and I am going to use it with the phenom II 955, ohh...i like this compatibility thingy...

i got a artic cooling 64 pro on a 4800x2 clocked at 3.21 ghz vcore v1.46, temps never get above 40c, but in summer does get abit toosty above 55c.

No apology needed mate, my response wasn't that serious :) Shame I'm not better at image editing though, that was one ugly picture.
A feel sad that you're not going to water cool it, as tiny watercooled systems are beautiful are few in number

Moving to a normal case is a brilliant solution however, nicely done. Should neatly solve the problem. I look forward to hearing about the newly very cold system :)

Actually just thought of something - looking at cpu-z, the voltage being used is at 1.45v

Does anyone know what the actual voltage is for the stock unit? This seems a tad high to me considering its a 65nm chip.

My 6000 runs at 3.4Ghz at vcore of 1.36 in the bios hope that helps a bit.

Double checked data

Looks like Coretemp is reporting about 8-10C above what Speedfan and MSU Dual Core Center are reporting. Confirmed when idle as well as on load.

Hmmm

Bear in mind this AMD chip 65nm are very well know not to read temps right, they on average report 10c cooler then they are.
