i7 4GHZ Bundle...Assistance please.

I ordered this bundle last week and was also quite worried after seeing these threads pop up about it.

I received the bundle last night, and I thought i'd quickly share my experience with it so far for other people considering it.

The package contained all the stated hardware, a copy of WIC, a free 128mb usb drive with some installation info and useful programs on it and all the original retail boxes and manuals of the parts including the stock intel cooler.

I could've bought the parts seperately and done it myself quite easily but to get it with optimal settings by default and a chip you know is capable of being stable at those speeds is well worth it imo.

The motherboard seems good, more expansion options than I could use, a small digital display for any error codes and various miniature leds to display information.

The fenrir cooler was a bit awkward at first, especially the clips for the fan, but it went on quite quickly. It didn't look as if it would fit facing the tall heatsinks of the RAM so i've positioned it blowing upwards through the heatsink and out of the roof exhaust of the case.

Booted up fine first time, installed Windows 7 from usb and no issues with that. Ran prime95 @ 4ghz on all 8 threads for a few hours, temperature never exceeded 76C in an antec 300 with case fans on low. No stability issues at all so far, will run a longer prime overnight.

Big difference in performance, especially in multi threaded tasks, will be trying SETI soon which should utilize all 8 threads. It comes with speed step so the clock speed is lowered to 2.3ghz~ when not in use, handy to save a bit of energy cost.

Haven't had a chance to try it with my Linux installs yet, but should be no issues.

I upgraded from an e2140 @ 2.8ghz, these are the 3d mark06 scores before and after, using a single gtx260 in both and default 3d mark settings.

Before:
SM 2.0 = 4843
SM 3.0 = 6602
CPU Score = 2454

After:
SM 2.0 = 8558
SM 3.0 = 8710
CPU Score = 6775

Longer post than I had intended but in summary it's an excellent product, many thanks rjkoneill.

Lol, I think I may have mislead you there rick, after getting windows on it idles around 40-46C over the last 2 days with the heat, under load it goes up to about 87C but stays stable so i'm not too fussed. Bring on winter my attic turns into a refridgerator then.

could i just check with anyone who's got it, what way can the titan cooler be mounted?
and ive heard some people talking about very high temps, but what's the average sort of temp people are getting?
i have a bit of a phobia of my components over heating after my last PC fried itself

Stress testing this bunble is giving me upto 88c at the moment, but all is stable so far. Still testing it tho, and it's been running for an hour.

The only real problem I see right now is the heatwave we are experiencing.

And my temps should drop to the lower eighties or under I hope, when it gets cooler outside.

So all seems well, and I'm really happy with this bunble from overclockers.

Neloz or anyone else with this i7 bundle :

I bought the bundle as well but I am having problems with the CPU fan. It is on at 100% all the time and sounds like an aeroplane isnside the case. I have tried slowing it down but to no avail. Are you able to slow the CPU fan speed down in your system?

no -you need a lot with direct contact coolers as you need to fill the gaps and negate air pockets

Missed the bundle deal, and picked up a 720/Gigabyte Extreme/Patriot 12GB set from you guys - could you give me some hints on how to O/C it?

(Yes I know, 12GB will slow things down. Am using it as a workstation and RAM is important)

The only setting I know is in BIOS under PC health status you can enable or disable auto fan which judges the CPU speed it needs to be at according to temp.

It's not too loud, I've always got headphones on as well which muffle it all out.
