I appologise for the entirely pointless thread but I have to vent this somewhere. So I just got my new car Saturday - Honda Civic ES 1.8 and ive been hugely happy with it and today im driving home minding my own business and some ridiculous woman in an 8 year old pug shunts me. I have no words to describe how utterly angry I am. Ive had this car not even a week...typical. Thankfully we have the same insurer and im hoping she wont cause any problems. /rant.

To give this thread some point does anyone have any advice on this situation ive never had any accident in my life, ive got in touch with elephant and they were very helpful on the phone, but i was in shock at the time.

Thanks

Did you buy a brand new Civic ES? Not the most fantastic VFM.

A friend of mine recently spent £15k on a brand new bog-standard Civic. I nearly cried. After about 15minutes of showing him a Type R + an extra £500 per year on insurance for he nearly cried.

Well I wasnt planning for this to turn into a thread where people bashed my decisions on spending money, but im very happy with the car, apart from the fact its now got a hole in the back.

I wasn't bashing, not enough about the purchase is known to make an opinion one way or another.

I think all you will find is people will ask although you are happy now, will you be happy in 3 years time? They may also point out you could have been as happy/more happy and still spent half the money.

Each to his own :)

Sorry Peerzy, didnt mean to jump down your throat, im still pretty ****ed about my whole situation. Hondas are known to be reliable cars, Im happy with my choice, 3 years is a long way away, Id imagine ill still be happy then or I wouldnt have made this choice, time will tell :)

Honda's are very reliable, the same way a 3 year old Civic for £8k will most likely be as reliable as your brand new one ;)

That's really bad luck - hopefully there's not too much damage.

The usual procedure is that you will have to fill in a claim form and send in a police report to the insurance company. Then they will send a surveyor to look at the car, who will make a decision on whether to repair or write off.

As the car is so new, they will likely choose to repair so you need to insist that the repair is done by a franchised Honda bodyshop.

I'm not sure how Elephant operate, but most insurance cos. will ensure you have a loan car for the time your car is off the road, either supplied by a hire company or from the repairing garage.

Once you get your own car back, go over the whole thing with a fine tooth comb before accepting it. The car should literally be good as new, so if there is anything you are not happy with (however minor), do not be afraid to reject it.

If Elephant decide the accident is not your fault, you shouldn't see an increase in premium next year.

P.S. - It's considered quite fashionable on this forum to slate other people's car choices, so just ignore the haters.

Hope this helps.

Nobody was injured I assume by your post, be thankful for that and get over it.

Its a car, which can & will be fixed.

Jeez, what is it with everyone turning every thread into a 'haha you bought brand new, you shouldn't have done that' thread, so what if he bought it brand new, it's his money, at least it wasn't from carcraft. (i hope).
Come on people, change the record, it gets boring seing the same old thing time after time.

Thanks very much for that, ive already told them I want it done at my Honda Garage and tbh the lady on the phone was really good, apparently if this woman accepts liability (and she cant really not) then theyll waive my excess and just try and get this rolling asap. Im calling back at 8 when they re-open to find out what the state of play is.

at least it wasn't from carcraft. (i hope).

God no!

How dare someone driving an older car crash into your new Honda!? I bet she picked it out from all the other cars on the road and thought "There's a man with a new car and an air of well-to-do about him - let's wipe that smug grin off his rich face!" instead of crashing into any old random.

;)

In all seriousness I can see why you'd be annoyed. It's quite fortunate that you have a new car, which is easy to repair with new parts readily available at a dealership. If somebody hit my car I would not have that option open to me.

That newness wears off quick though doesn't it?

Well, I know exactly how you feel.

3 week into owning my new Fiesta I came back to find someone had driven into my passenger side and then driven off.

Please stop bashing people who choose to buy new. If it weren't for them, there would be no second hand market for us ;)

It is somewhat annoying to find the 2nd reply has not a single word of relevance to the OPs post and comments on value for money only.

You think your comment is going to make him take it back and find something else? Why is it always the assumption that people have no intellect and are fleeced out of their money.

Everyone's circumstances are different and while some of us (me included) will never buy new off the forecourt some people will, and will happily do so.

Gods way of saying your should have bought a type R.

Jokes aside it's always an arse to have that new car feeling demolished by a woman not paying attention. She won't have to admit liability, it's up to the insurance company to decide but it looks like it will go against her.
