i went for AMD as it offers more option for upgrading and clock for clock, the phenom2 are on par with the q8 and q9 series intels, so are faster than the q6xx series intels

500GB HDD over 320 as 500s are of a similar price

thanks for all the effort on that, but have to be mega strict on the £400 budget. I'm a student what can i say lol. So its worth getting the tri core over the intel quad core? so many things to think about!!

i dont have a problem controlling mine, using catalyst 9.1, i have mine on 50% speed

it depends on what you use your pc for, if you use a lot of multicore appiclations, the quad will be better, but in most other cases, the tricore will be better. the amd route will also allow you to upgrade more and give you pci-e2 which will allow you to use the higher end cards to their full potential (assuming your monitor can). this can be solved with a p43, p45 or x48 chipset if you are going to stick with intel

is the one i picked not very good then? lol. cus i think i can make that for like £380. being a student sucks! i'm so poor :(

Here is as close as I could possibly get to £400 and it includes shipping. Any lower and I would have had to remove cores (surgically).

If you omit the optical drive you will pretty much be a couple quids over budget.
