HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

the phone is good an all but the only thing i mind is the Qualcomm processor, which really is a letdown, i was expecting HTC to use nvidia tegra which are due in the next few months in handsets. What makes it better are its abilities to play/output 1080p and include 12mp cameras.

I agree, I'm looking for new processors before i upgrade my g1.

I feel the same with my Magic too now heh. After reading Ion this and Tegra that I want my next phone to have at least 720P recording and capable of playing x264 encodes at least!

You were expecting them to use a chip that is due out in a few months? Errrr ok!

HTC's first Tegra phone (SuperStar) is due out later this year, although I think it might be using WiMo 6.5 :/

EDIT: Plus from what i've seen so far, only the 'laptop/netbook' based Tegra chipset will be able to handle 1080, plus 12MP cameras on phones will still look utter **** if (when) they use a tiny sensor.

But yah, i'm still looking forward to it :D

I'm pre-ordering one of these tomorrow for £400 sim-free. My N95 8gb died at a foam party and I'm dieing for a new phone! The Hero seems like the perfect option! Only thing, will this sync my contacts and calender from Outlook?

Short answer: No

Longer answer: Yes, but it's not a straight "Android > Outlook" sync. You'll have to do it via GMail (from what I can see). There are 3rd party apps that can apparently do it, but they require extra software to be installed and it just seems like way too much hassle, to achieve a simple task.

Although saying that, from what I understand, the Outlook syncing thing, boils down to using the ActiveSync API (which the Google branded Android phones can't/wont' do), but i'm not sure if/when the 'non-Google' Android phones will!

Cheers, I'll just transfer my calender and contacts to Google contacts/calendar. Pre-order for HTC Hero placed :D. I'll put some unboxing pics up when it arrives :D. I've got a release date as 5/7/09 on the website I pre-ordered from, have we got a confirmed sim-free release date anywhere? Every website is different =/.

What are the complications - if any ordering non direct from the actual retailer?

I am with O2 at the moment, but want to move to T-Mobile with a HTC Hero and then port my number over, contract ends with O2 tomorrow!

well, I phoned up O2 and got a PAC code, I have 30 days to use it, so as soon as my phone arrives I'll be able to port my number over, I wont know if there are complications until the phone comes out, but I don't think there will be

trying to find where you ordered from, but failing

could you let me know?

and by complications i mean when you order from a 3rd party i.e. CPW - although you are contracted with T-Mobile, for issues/renewalls/upgrades etc... who do you liaise with T-Mob or CPW?

What are your ETAs? The website I ordered mine from sim-free gives a release date of 5/7/09. Hopefully I'll have it in my hands that day rather than them shipping it then.
