PS3 fan kicks into overdrive if room temp is too high?

I've read that the fan in the PS3 kicks into overdrive if the room temp is too hot. After about 10 minutes of having my PS3 on, the fan starts to get really loud. At first I thought there was something wrong with it and I needed it replaced... I've only noticed the fan starting up when the weather was really hot.

Anyone else having the same problem? Would just like to know incase I don't need to return my PS3.

So let me get this straight, the fan is coming on to cool the unit down and you think it's a fault?

It would do because the CPU is getting hot(ter than it would in cooler weather), therefore it needs to spin the fan up to push more air across the heatsink, thereby transferring more heat heat away from the heatsink and reducing the temperature of the processor. In other words it's not a fault at all.

Do you own a PS3? Can you tell me if the fan in your PS3 starts sounding like a hair dryer if the room temp is too hot? I am asking if anyone here is experiencing the same thing. Its too loud to ignore when the fans kick into overdrive.

The sound the fan makes is twice that of my pc rig. Its unbearable when trying to watch a movie. Damn hot weather.

Mine has been doing that quite a lot during the recent hot weather, even though at the time the air it is pumping out isn't really that hot, I think the temperature at which the fans kick in is quite low.

Yea, I was hoping this was the case and my machine wasn't faulty. I tried pointing a fan at it to keep it cool but the fans still kick in. One of my favorite things about the PS3 was how quiet it was during use. Now after 10 minutes, I have to turn it off. I guess its better than it over heating. I hope this heat wave doesn't last much longer.

Is this thread a joke? I echo the first reply.

I am asking if others with PS3's are experiencing the same thing with the weather being so hot. Being a PS3 owner, I'm not used to the machine sounding like a 747. Yourself being a 360 owner, are probably used to it by now though. :D

PS3 makes a racket shocker! My 360 was a pain too, solution was to sell it. I can no longer hear it as it is several miles from my ears

Fair enough, my brother had a PS3 and it was quieter. But you have to expect the fans to kick in when the weather is this warm.

Only reason I thought it was a joke was becuase CPU and GPU fans on PC's have always had this, more heat = harder working fan = more noise (unless you have some posh watercooling or fancy fans.)

I have an antec 9000 gamer case and its always quiet. The rig is cold even in this weather.

I wish I had an AC. I used to have ac years ago and the summers were easy to deal with.

I've noticed that I can hear it now from 3-4 foot away where as before I would have to go right up to it, so I assume the fans are in overdrive?

Awwwwwww I get it now.

I thought you were saying that after 10 minutes the fan cuts out.

Silly me.

Yeah, cool=quite warm=loud.

Whoops, just re-read it. I changed it now to make more sense.

I wouldn't be making this thread if it didn't bother me. The fan noise makes it too loud to keep on. Its too annoying to keep on. :(

Bring on the winter. :D

IMO,I would rather have a blister on my foot then own a PS3 ;)

Oh do be quiet. This thread doesn't need to be turned into a flamewar.

Rob: My PS3 is still whisper quiet. Was it you that i told about my replacement PS3 being really loud and i got it replaced by Sony?

Yup, I made another thread about my replacement being loud. I've had my replacement for a few weeks, and during those few weeks, the weather has been hell. I made this thread to see if anyone else is having the same problem with the weather being so damn hot.

Not sure if its the weather or its faulty.
