Lexus IS 2.0 - 174k miles, its up for £2k, my friend wants it as aposed to some 1.0 econobox with 80k miles and windy windows for the same money.

Its from a dealer and the ad claims it comes with an interim service freshly done, full MOT, full TAX, and a 2 year warranty...

With that many miles on it is it a no go and a rather silly option or does the 2 year warrenty negate this?

I wouldnt touch it, but there are others on here who would, its probably coming to the end of its economical service life.

2 year warranty from a dealer with that many miles?!

I would snap their hand off at that price if the warranty was watertight.

How can I tell if the warranty is watertight?

That's what is stated on the website....

As long as its a straight car with a full dealer history and warranty of sorts, I'd take a punt on it. Bullet proof build and what's the alternative? Mondeo? Laguna? 406?

Is it an S or SE, auto or manual and what year is it?

Not sure that someone who's after a 1.0 econo box is going to like paying £400 p/a in tax or 23mpg at the pumps though.....

miles wouldn't bother me, if it turns out to be a lemon your mate can always get a ghia x mondodo for about 1500 quid with less miles.

I looked into these a few years back. Very solid cars, servicing is quite reasonable, the only drawbacks are they're a bit thirsty, the SE wheels are prone to corrosion and the engine's a bit lacking in grunt.

But for that price and with a warranty, do eeeeet!

With the warranty it sounds decent, but most importantly take a look at the condition of the car along with FSH. The IS is a nice car, my mate has one. Is it a navigator version?
