Hi all, just realized i have some what of a natural talent at drumming (my friend said this who is grade 8). Obviously i am not amazing, i have never had lessons but i can play pretty well for someone in my position. So i have decided to start learning. Now without pointing out the obvious i will need a drum kit and i have decided to go for an electronic one. Price isn't too much of a problem as long as it isn't ridiculous. i would like a kit which will last me a long time and has a few options. I like the look of the Yamaha DTXPRESS and the Roland TD-4K and the TD-9K.

Does anyone own one of these?
What would you recommend.

Thanks a lot

Hey

I got the Roland HD-1 and i love it it has every thing i need and isn't too expensive if the Roland TD-4K an TD-9K use the same technology as the HD-1 then they will be great, Its great having the snare being mesh as this reduceds the sound significantly and it also can be tightened and let loose depending on your style.

The other pads which are rubber are pretty load to be hones but if you have headphones on you can't hear them but unfortunately your neighbours can.

My HD-1 can be folded up and can be compacted quite easily but it looks as though the other two are on different racks.

My advise is to go into a store try out a few see what you like with all the different effects etc. then find the cheapest place online, they are easy to set up and have some great advantages over acoustic kits. If you are interested in pictured of mine just ask i'm happy to help.

i have a TD6-KX :)

I tried a HD1, TD3 and TD6 along with the Yamaha before buying the TD6. Here are my observations:

HD1 - pedals aren't anything like real pedals. Sitting position is a pain. You have to fit the design rather than being able for it to fit you. In my opinon this is a kit for kids and you'll grow out of it. It's limited on the sounds and from what I remember you can't connect it to MIDI to upload new kits sounds.

TD3 - better pedals, missing things like cymbal mute etc.

TD6 - has cymbal mute, the KX has mesh which is nicer than the harder rubber pads. The kickdrum will take single and double pedal drums. The module is better than the TD3. You can use vDrumLib etc to manage and upload new better sounding kits as it has in & though/out MIDI ports.

In short you get what you pay for..
