Sampling is set to start on AMD’s fast new Phenom II X4 965 next week and we’re being told the new offering is 200MHz faster than the 955 at around 3.4GHz - straight out of the box.

The move will continue to put pressure on Intel which has already slashed prices of its Core 2 chips by about $33.

The chips are apparently being aimed squarely at 'O’clockers on a budget', especially if one considers this chip coupled with the new 785 chipset DDR3 mainboard, a pretty winning combination.

We’re not entirely clear on pricing yet, but AMD has two choices, it can either launch its new 965 at the same price it launched the 955, or launch it at the 955’s current prices and scoot everything else down a bit.

Either way, it certainly seems AMD are having an impact on rival Intel’s pricing. If we were Intel, we might be considering a rebrand right about now
Had a feeling this would be coming :) I wonder if these new ones will hit 3.8GHz - 4GHz on air when overclocked, we shall soon see . . . . come on AMD!!

I'm hoping they price this at below the £200 mark, probally will end up at the 955 release price my guess.

Yeah should have done a search . . . :( :)3.6GHz, which gets me 52fps using a GTX295 in Crysis @ 1920x1200 resolution.

I'll buy one of these new 965's IF they clock to 4GHz otherwise not worth me switching, it probally wont be worth anyway gaming wise but who cares lol. :)

I my get get one if they do 4Ghz easy for a new build i will be doing or ill just use the CPU that i now have.

Do you think that guy has purchased the Tri-Channel Dominator GT DDR3 RAM?
As I have looked on corsairs website and cant see a Dual-Channel package of Dominator GT.

I really hope it's a great performer. I'm sure even the most die hard Intel fanboy wants AMD to be competitive with I7. Competition only helps the consumer
