quick question guys....

seasonic m12d 850w

or

corsair tx850w

or

???

prices are pretty much the same.. i have a small case (gt900) so favour the seasonic.

ta

im not a fan of slapping a brand name on a product tbh but corsairs choice of manufacturer seems spot on.

the seasonc is 20mm shorter i believe, i'm planning on chopping the 5 1/4 bay mounting in front of the psu out to fit a rad n fan so every little helps. so i've heard anyway..

The corsair has the edge on efficiency(based on 110v), though not seen a 230v test for both (both should be even better on 230v).

Corsair is cheaper, but same level quality/standard.

Seasonic is smaller and produces a bit less noise, though both are quiet units from the reviews so far.

Seasonic has a UK based RMA.

I'd go for Seasonic, but then size and noise would be my reasons, I'd pay extra for that.

If money is an issue the Corsair wins.

the seasonic is currently available for less than £5 more than the corsair, seems like there no recurrent issues with either of them so will be ordering the m12d 850w tomorrow.

thanks for the input ppl.

The HX520, HX620 corsair PSUs are seasonic, the TX650, TX750, HX750, HX850 and HX1000 are Channel well technology. The best PSUs in the corsair range are the HXs (whichever manufacturer they came from).

I'd consider the seasonic rather than the TX850, but if you can stretch to the HX850 (or can get away with the HX750), these 2 PSUs really are the finest on the market today. Both are the first modular PSUs to get 80+ gold certification, and both have rock solid DC output.

The Bequiet DPP the others are suggesting is a top quality PSU, but just not quite as good as the HX750 or HX850 IMO.

The fan speed in the Corsair is stepped rather than on a rheostat.
As a result you get much lower fan speeds, for longer, ie it is majoritively quieter up to about 80% load iirc.. The flip side of this is the PSU being held at a sub-optimal temperature which will fatigue the components and result in lower efficiency.

The Be Quiet! Darkpower PSUs have pulsed starting, much like proper servers do, where all the fans spin up to 100% briefly before being controlled by temperature. :)

A 85%+ efficient PSU won't produce much heat until it gets a high load.

None of the PSU in this discussion should ever get hot enough to cause significant damage or fatigue the components.

well have ordered the 850w seasonic, was seriously tempted by the tx corsair's - great reviews by owners, journo's etc as well as an internationally known and respected manufacturer.

However the seasonic m12d 850w seems as good as, costs about the same (£ 120ish) but as said the deciding factor is the smaller size. Those 20 little mm will be important if i squeeze a rad in the front of the psu.

Arrives monday along with a new f1 1tb hdd, gotta take advantage when sayin postage.
