From some of the thread's i've read i'm quite sure the cables on the OCZ modxstreams aren't the longest, but it has enough juice for the GPU if you can get it plugged in :p

You may want to have a read of this. Personally i would'nt touch another OCZ power supply. I had a Gamexstream 700w that blew up spectacularly after only 10 days use.

Thanks all for the quick responses,i will go for the psu pointed out to me by cmndr_andi,and the reviews of my original choice of psu, urgh, ghastly, thanks again one and all.

I'm not a huge fan of the OCZ ModXStream tho they aren't that bad - but a lot of them that I know of have given up the ghost after a couple of years tops... tho none have taken out anything else when they failed that I know of.

The stealthxstream are of even lower quality from my experience - they keep running but don't supply anything like enough power after awhile... and are theres decidedly nothing stealthly about them - warm and noisey PSUs...

The OCZ GameXStream line have been solid for me - the poster above must have got unlucky - I've run several of them within an inch of their life and they've stood upto it like troopers. The OCZ Fatal1ty also seems good but like the GameXStream OCuk have stopped selling them for some reason.

The psu,and gpu arrived this morning, great service.new psu fitted.
I am currently running my 8800gts,i can not for the life of me get into windows with the ati card installed,no signal on my monitor(error message).
As windows tries to start, after i click on login, the fan on the new card kicks into life(red light comes on at the rear of said card),and bam,no signal message,Fan on card still going strong.
I power off, restart,to last good known configuration, and i,m in vga mode, then an error, ati related, about being unable to find any ati hardware.
I have tried to install various drivers, and i keep going round in this endless loop.(using Revo uninstaller between driver installs.
Is my card doa,or am i missing something with the driver install?
Used to have an x800xt a few years back, but not had anything like this occur, thanks.

Hi there RoddyPoddy.

Did you use driver cleaner to remove all the Nvidia graphic related files on your PC prior to installing the 4890?. I'm only asking due to the fact that I've done this every time I switch between Nvidia and ATI with no problem at all.

This is the usual method below that I do. The reason I'm listing it is to see if you have done this and also for guidance to others who are maybe switching for the first time on their current system.

Uninstall the Nvidia/ATI drivers then reboot. Boot into safe mode (press F8 when booting). Run Driver Cleaner and remove ATI/NVIDIA drivers then shut down PC. Now change the cards over. Boot the PC, install and restart and that should be it.

You could also try a simple reset of the graphics card in the PCI-E slot first to see if that is the case. Also a CMOS reset if the re-seat fails. I hope you get to use your new card soon.

I used Revo uninstaller, ati cat remover, and "nasty file remover",when i boot with the ATI card installed,i can see the fan spinning,as windows tries to load, the fan gives an allmighty whoosh,as though its running at top whack, and this will continue until i hold in the power button to turn off my pc.Had the card in and out half a dozen times now,uninstalling/trying to install various driver revisions, and all i get is new hardware found, and my pc trying to install a driver for my new VGA device, and thats only booting into LGKC,or SM,it seems i,m on an endless loop however i try.
Is Driver cleaner free?,and thanks for the response, though i may leave things for tonight,it does look sadly as though i may have to reject this card
Just remembered, when i right click on my desktop,i can see the ccc tab,but if i click on it(or any ccc tabs in programme,s) it starts to do something, then nothing happens,as if the actual drivers don,t install, and also get error messages relating to no ATI software,or something along those lines, installed on my pc.
Man i have a headache.
