As the title says, it it just me or are banks getting worse?

Barclays have this awesome new (ish) system, were you have an automatic overdraft called the reserver amount if you didnt know already.
You can stay in your limit for 5 days until you'll get charged.

But what ive just found out is you get charged the first day your in it and you dont get charged again for another 5.

I'm sorry but isnt this worse, £22 for this is ridiculous, it used to be cheaper, several years back before all these claims etc..

This is just a bloody loop hole, to still keep stealing all your cash.
I mean i went in my overdraft £2.49! and paid it back in within an hour when i realised!

They should make bank robbery legal! Its no different to what their doing..

/Rant....

Ask them to refund the charge and remove the overdraft facility if they are going to charge you for it, or you will remove your account from their bank

Its the same everywhere, Nationwide (a building society I know) do exactly the same to me, so i took out a proper overdraft on my account, now if I do that I owe them 1p or something instead. Worst thing with the nationwide is I cant to a simple transfer online except to another nationwide account, which is just stupid. If I want to do it then I have to go to the branch and they charge me. Dirty Thieves.

Barclays are a thieving bunch of tards.
I got caught out on this so decided to go chat on the phone about it - the guy on the phone, I am afraid, got a bit of a tongue lashing.

When I asked why I had been moved to the reserve system he said everyone was opted in to the scheme. I asked him what opt-in really meant, suggesting that opt-in is where I ask to go on the scheme. What they had done was forced me onto the system without asking.

He then said they have so many million customers it would take too long to ask everyone if they would like to opt-in so everyone got opted in by default - if they wanted to get out they just had to call.

I pointed out that this smelt a touch like an opt-out system, at which point I got passed to a supervisor who just point bluntly said no refunds and did I want out of the system to which they got a hearty yes.

Now back on the old system so if I hit my overdraft I get 8 quid a day charge instead of 22 quid every 5 days. It may sound like it works out more expensive but if Barclays actually had a decent system that looked across accounts they would see I have a fair chunk in my savings account to pull across to cover the defecit!

Bum wipes, the lot of them :)

Speaking as an ex barclaycard employee, id advise to avoid like the plague! They are all about turning profit at any cost and the ends always justify the means. I mean ive worked as bookie and a bouncer and working for Barclays was by far the most morally objectionable!

Would now be a good time to explain how debit cards work and therefore why it's impossible for the bank to remove any possibility of going overdrawn unless you only have a cash card, and instead impressing the whole personal responsibility point of view that people should manage their own finances?
