Britain, its worse than South Africa....

I hate walking past youths on the street because all they seem to live for is to harass, rob and generally ruin the lives of everyone around them.
Nice generalisation and stereotyping there. I'll be sure to steal everything you own next time I see you in the street. Watch out for me, I'll be wearing the traditional white clothing as well. :/

I could understand how Britain is more dangerous, in SA the whites stay in all white areas that have MUCH lower crime rates (enter excuse why here) whereas in Britain it is more mixed up and crime in all areas and the posh whites are drug addicts (enter it is only a herb here)

No chance. I worked in Baragwanath hospital (Joh'burg) and was seeing 20+ people with stab wounds a night, not even counting assaults, drunken car crashes...etc. There is no way you can even think to compare it to the UK.

I fully understand that tabloids print crap, however from first hand experience the amount of armed muggings attempted muggings and assaults issued upon me friends in the UK is ridiculous.

Personally I've been held up numerous times as follows.
Bristol 4x - 2x with knifes
Bath 1x - 5 yobs
Local town 1x with knifes
Miami - USA 2x Guns - very very scary
Africa 0
Rest of Europe 0
Asia 0
I've spent much time in all of the places, varying countries, only in the UK and USA have I encountered the unprovoked violence.

Our western culture certainly has less respect for fellow citizens, although the way the article reports things is shoddy the underlining point is clear. For those who wish to experience life to the full, life in our western countries it is more dangerous. Sure we can avoid awkward situations by staying in, visiting the generic places etc. The UK is known world wide for our hooligan violence which is part of our culture unfortunately.

Nope sorry, fail to see how Britain is anywhere near as dangerous as somewhere like, South Africa.

The Daily Mail, like a lot of fellow red top newspapers, and some other papers, like to keep the population in a state of fear. They're opinions, and views in the paper are often accepted and taken on board by the readers, which in turn delivers what they want.

In a odd, way they're killing independent thought, and keeping the people where they want them.

Britain, has a very low reported crime rate compared to places in South America, America, Parts of Europe. We should consider ourselves lucky to live in a fairly peaceful country. The unreported crimes in this country and probably higher then they should be, due to papers taking away the importance and role of the police.

However, they're pitiful compared to the unreported crimes, in Johannesburg alone for example.

Going out on a night out in England, hey might get in to a fight, but thats more due to the drinking culture, that has been accepted by many papers, where people will drink to excess and fight. Fight, Punch, kick.

You don't even have to be on a night out with friends in some parts of the world, you'd be killed regardless, of time of day, who you're with or who you are.

Where abouts? I've been to various dodgy places around Bristol and never once been mugged...

2 separate occasions Broadmead Saturday daytime with the knifes.

Other 2 times are after hours around town, which to be fair I do understand anywhere in the world, late night, chances are increased magnitudes.

That Daily Mail articale is a joke as far as I'm concerned...

:( Broadmead daytime is pretty shocking, that said I don't remember seeing much CCTV around there plus it seems to be mainly chavs around there these days. ;)

I must admit I do feel a little nervous in certain parts (stapleton road springs to mind) but often I don't look like I have anything worth nicking on me, which may explain why I've haven't got mugged even tho I've lived in Bristol for quite a while now...

go to uni with 2 lads whove lived in SA. one is south african and one is british but moved there when really young.

neither of them want to ever go back... one of them wont even consider it

Tell them they're crazy not to as the UK is the most violent country in the world.

oh aye i will do. they will love it back over there seeing people get shot and getting beaten to near death just for being white

While the daily fail is full of crap, the only thing to point out here is that, in the UK, and the USA as someone else said, random crime is rife. There might be massive stabbing/shooting/murder rates in other area's of the world but a lot of that is gang warfare. People who simply aren't a part of society, they aren't really the kinds of people who go around shopping malls and just stab some pregnant lady while trying to rip off her bag. Its more, drug deal gone bad, 20 people vs 20 people and half die.

For me the level of safety you feel where you live, is the level of percieved violence you live with. In the UK anywhere at any time a bunch of chav's/scumy twits can decide to mug you, stab you, for really whatever reason they decide. Its so random, that makes area's feel so unsafe.

Yes the numbers don't agree and I'm not saying personally that I think SA "feels" safer, never been. But of all the places in the world I've been, the uk feels the least safe and the most random in its targeting of victims.

Theres shootings in schools in america, crap happens in our schools, but its often people mistreated by people in those schools, not an excuse, but not completely random. Same with most murders, gang related violence.

THe fact is if I was a gang member walking the streets looking for trouble, I wouldn't feel safe anywhere, as a member of the public who would avoid known trouble spots, the UK is one of the places in the world I feel the least safe as I don't think there are real trouble spots to avoid due to the random targeting.
